dont jump into it tellin him to stop..that never does a bit of good. my moms doctor has told her to stop smokin for years. just ease into it with your dad and tell him how much you care and want him to be around. look some information up on the internet about exactly what smoking can do to your body. but once you smoke for half your life or longer its hard to drop the habit. i suggest you talk to him and tell him you will be his support. someone who quit smoking needs all the support they can get cause if they go to give into one of their cravings and light one up they will think about who they are letting down.

Open up to him about how much it concerns you. Don't preach to him. He obviously knows all the health risks of smoking. Just let him know you love him and would like to have him around for a long, long time.

Ask him to stop. Tell him you love him and want him to be around to see his grandchildren. My dad smoked and the doctor told him if he didn't quit, he would not be around to see his grandchildren. My dad stopped smoking and now has not only seen his grandchildren, but 3 great-grandchildren.

Well most of my family used to smoke. So finally they payed for it and got really sick. So you should talk to him and tell him what it can do to him and maybe he will stop. And now beacause i did the same thing my family doesn't smoke.

Open up to him and tell him what you feel reguarding the subject of smoking. Keep in mind, that not all of us live forever. As much as you may want him to change, it is his life and his choice. Love him while you can.

Try to persuade him to stop smoking, but do it in a gentle manner out of concern for his health.
