Of course I'd take a cruise. As far as the murder goes, you need to pay attention on a cruise ship just as you need to pay attention when in a city or any unfamiliar surrounding. As far as worrying about any other safety matters, I think cruising is pretty safe. The recent problem with the new Princess ship is not something I've heard of happening before. I'll take my chances.

Never. The thing is that the news is also going to report the bad. In my opinion, the news has gone from reporting the news, to trying to be a source of entertainment. They don't mention all the cruises that go out and come back compeltely fine.
One example, the news reports about illness onboard the ships. It is a lot easier to narrow down the source of illness when you a large group of people is locked in one place. But if everyone that gets sick went to a hotel, you are much less likely to hear it reported on the news because they all go their seperate ways, did their own things etc.
I've been on more than enough cruises to know that they are safe as the person traveling. I don't think alcohol should be allowed on cruise ships at all, if it is, people need to be limited on how much they can drink. So many of the problems on cruises recently has been because of alcohol.
No matter where you go, or what you do, there is a risk that something could happen. You never know what will happen. But if I always live in fear that something is going to happen, I won't enjoy my life and then there really is no point in living it.
I have a lot of cruises planned for the next couple of years and I have no plans to cancel or change them. Cruising is wonderful and I'm going to continue to enjoy it. Just because there has been some negative stories lately, it isn't going to stop me.

I've cruised 5 times and would do so again in a heartbeat. You just need to use the same common sense you would at home or when shopping. There is safety in numbers. I've traveled and cruised alone, and always book through the line because I have the security of fellow passengers. As for health issues, I ALWAYS carry hand sanitizer with me, and use it frequently, plus take 'Airborne' when I travel. There is "murder and mayhem" everywhere--doesn't prevent me from leaving my house, and it won't prevent me from getting on a cruise ship.

I think you are overly dramatic. I cannot find any information about any murder, only one suspicious disappearance. If not an accident it was probably an act of domestic violence. Since I do not drink to excess and I get along well with my husband, I feel safe and will certainly cruise again. However, I would not cruise on a brand new ship like the Crown Princess. I prefer they get the bugs worked out and the crew get some experience with the ship first.

I have been on about a dozen cruises and consider them one of the safest vacations you can go on. The cruise lines put a lot into safety. No passengers get on the ships without a passport or other positive ID. Passengers are carefully counted and screened when they get on and off the ship (using a photo ID that's part of your room key) so no one gets on who does not belong on ship. People may get drunk and fall over are not because the ship did anything wrong. Its near impossible to just fall over a railing. People do get left at ports I am sure because the ships make it clear when sailing times are and when passengers should be back on ship. And they tell you that you will be left behind if you are not back on time.
WE just finished a cruise this past May and have two more booked for this year and have no apprehensions about going on either. We just make sure that we cruise outside of the hurricane season.

Yes. I've been before. If you research the past stories such as that George Smith person on Royal Caribbean, you see that it was irresponsibility of passengers that caused the death. The cruise line did all it could. In regards to the listing of a Carinval ship...I don't know what is up with that. I cruise Royal Caribbean tho, and I feel safe.

Sure!
I took a great 9-day Mediterranean cruise last summer.
I am signed up for a 7-day Mexican Riviera cruise in Oct-Nov.
It's a lot of fun, and it's true, "you only unpack once."
(FYI I'm not some old retirement fogy, I'm under 40.)
The key is picking the right cruise line. Ask them about the average age and people who go on the cruise you are interested in.

a cruise is a "floating city". We all live in cities, if every time we here about something that has happened in our towns, we move...we would always be moving.
You dont hear about EVERY murder or mayhem in every city or town because so much of it happens....
the reason why you hear about the cruise lines is because it is not AS frequent as in our everyday lives, so the media makes it LARGER THAN LIFE....
I would feel safer on a cruise than in a large city....

Not really. It does compel me to do more pre-investigation about the cruise line that I cruise with and consider the route and destination that the cruise will take. Anything other than that, if its your time its your time; I know where I'm going if it is my time. So I'm gonna cruise.
