I just recently visited Waikiki, and I'd only seen about 4 homeless people. I know there are more, as a conversation with a local man said there is a huge problem there. Unlike Chicago or New York, the main population are tourists and have already paid a pretty penny for getting there and aren't about to 'give away' money. The locals pay an exorbitant amount for rent (blames Asians because they sucked up so much land with businesses and pushed up the price of everything in the city to compare with the yen of the tourists, but I digress...) and they are already living paycheck to paycheck that they feel no pitty for the homeless.

Your question is misleading. You say "has anyone ever lived on the streets" and then say in the sub-detail area "...in Waikiki". Good luck finding another person on Yahoo! Answers that has been homeless in Waikiki.
