I have a 4 year old male terrier/chawawa mix. He is house-trained and has a clean check-up at the vets. However, from time to time, he will pee or poop inside our house. Not very often, like I said... from time to time, periodically. I think he knows he's been bad too, he acts like he does, and we make it clear he's been bad.
What else can we do and why would he do this?

I have a 2 year old fiest/chawawa mix. He is house-trained, but he messes up in the house sometimes to. He mostly does it at night while we are sleeping. If you let him eat before he goes to sleep, that may be the problem. My dog messes up when we let him eat to much.

Stop arguing or playing loud music so much in the house. Animals can get afraid and nervous thus causing "accidents".
Animals have feeling's too. Especially small animals like a Chawawa.
Also monitor it's eating habbits. No leftover pizza or potato chips for the animal,ok? No m&m's or peanuts. Remember, the stomach of a Chawawa is very small as is the brain.
I suggest getting a book on the how to's of Chawawa care.

my dog does that kind of thing for attention. She hates to be left alone, and tends to do it more often when she has spent the day alone. She'll do it while she is alone, or not long after someone comes home. She also will do it if storms are in the area. she's going on 11, and she has done it from day 1, and she knows it is wrong just like your dog. If your dog seems to do this when you leave him alone, try something like leaving the radio on for him, or the tv, just so he doens't feel alone when you go away. I can't promise it will work, but it is worth a try.

A few possibilities immediately come to mind.
The first would be that he simply couldn't hold it any longer.
The others would be separation anxiety or a way of getting back at you for something. It is fairly common for dogs to occasionally leave "presents" for their owners when they're displeased about the owners absence. As for the revenge possibility ... I once dated a guy who yelled pretty badly at my chihuahua one night for barking at something and causing him to miss what was said on TV. The next morning we discovered my dog had peed in one of his shoes. Good dog. Bad guy. =)

Well, it's like this. When we have to go we just find a toilet and go. We aren't dependent upon someone to take us to the toilet. Sure, a housetrained dog knows he's supposed to go outside but if his stomach acts up or he's had a new treat or his timing is off he can't necessarily hold it until you get home.
What if you were at someone else's mercy or on someone else's schedule and had to wait til they came home to be able to take a sh*t? I know I'm used to being able to go whenever I get ready. So, if your dog's only doing this from time to time he probably is in a situation where he just can't hold it. He hasn't been "bad." He just couldn't hold it.
Maybe you're not in tune with when he needs to go and expect him to go only when you take him. I know our dog just goes to the door and stares at us until we take her out if it's not her regular time.

Quite possibly he needs a little more attention, or there is stress in the household that he is reacting to. Reward the good behavior, just like with kids.

I have a cross chiahuahua too. Mine does it occassionally too. The vet says it is the dogs way of complaining that it feels like it is not getting enough attention.

He probably does it when you clean the smell from the last lot away, as this type of behaviour is usually to mark territory.
You need to make it clear that inside the house he is welcome but that it is your territory.

Dogs belong outside. If he does this keep him outside for 24hours. He will get the picture. If he wants to be with the family/pack, he will have to follow the rules.
