I think I have forgotten how to play. I usually resort to games or puzzles. Any ideas?

Let her lead some of the play and be creative!

If she likes to play pretend or act out stories, let her be Cinderella (or whoever her favorite character is) and you be whatever character or charcters she wants you to be and try to "act" accordingly.

Also crafts are fun at this age, just cutting colored paper and gluing it to somethng to make an abstract creation. Or play doh to create a "feast" of funny looking foods.

You could also play "I spy", read books together, color in coloring books, draw pictures, sing songs, make up stories and so forth together.

Like I suggested before, let her lead, if she's interested in doing something, join in with her, it will make you feel young again!

(I miss those play times when my son was that little!)

There's a game that's been out for decades called Memory. It's a great game and it helps build well....memory in your child's brain.

Video games are also a great learning tool. They're fun, promote hand-eye coordination and logical reasoning.

Some games like Mortal Kombat and San Andreas just teach kids how to be violent and kill people...they're not too good for learning. But there are a ton of other fun, educational games out there.

Be a 'kid' yourself when you play with your child. Interact, sink-in and play the part. It's like being a 'friend' to your child as well. There are in fact many ways wherein you will enjoy each other's company while playing. Like, going to the playground. Go on the slide yourself and experience being a kid once again. Your child will definitely enjoy that experience with you. Also, you can play tag with her, too. When at home, you can play hide-and-seek. My husband and I, play this with our kids. They love it!

Well, hope you'll be able to draw ideas from all of us here. Cheers!

Five year olds love to be Princesses. Play beauty shop with her, fixing her hair and doing her makeup, maybe even painting her nails.
Dancing to music is always a favorite.

I have a three year old and and a five year old girls and let me tell you they like to play dress up. They like to go through my closet and find my high heels and i let them play with dress that i can not longer can fit and just have not gotten the chance to throw them out. Let me tell you their imagination goes wild. Sometimes they pretended to be a big movie star and getting ready to go to the red carpet. It is pretty funny, and i play the excited fan of theirs and ask them for their autograph. Or sometimes they give me a performance from the Titanic. They seen it so many times. Or sometimes they play hair dresser and you can guess who is the customer.....LOL but just find out what they like to do and let them do it.

Let her lead - ask kher what she wants to play and join in. At age 5 it will probably be pretend or dressing up. If she wants to play shops ask if you should be a customer etc. Have fun!

Ask her what she wants to do. . . follow her suggestions, play dress up. . and believe it or not, I'm sure she values those puzzles and games. . Mostly all she wants is your attention.
