my love of animals started when i was a little girl.
actually, when i was very young (2-3 yrs old), i was terrified of animals, esp, dogs. it's not that uncommon for a toddler to be afraid of dogs, for dogs are usually a lot bigger than the toddler. when i was a toddler, my parents had a collie puppy named Brandy. Brandy was a very sweet dog, but i was afraid of him because he was so big (and hairy, lol). everytime he came in to my little play room, i would scream and yell until my parents had to come get him.
but one day that all stopped. it was october 19, 1989---the day of the Loma Prieta earthquake in San Francisco. That evening, when i was in the dining room (coloring in my coloring book) i could feel the floor moving under me. the chandelier started to swing over my head. i was so scared, i had no idea what was going on. so my dad (who had the puppy in one arm) picked me up with his other arm. then he put me and the puppy (whom i was already terrified of) in the broom closet. (yes the broom closet) that was probably the safest place in the house. from in the broom closet, i could still hear all the things rattling/shaking and the ground was still vibrating. i was so scared . i could tell that the puppy was scared too, he was shaking. so i grabbed him and hugged him tight until everything stopped moving. when the earthquake stopped, my parents took me out of the closet and were surprised to find me still clinging to brandy, the dog whom i had been so terrified of just the day before.
i remember that day like it was yesterday. brandy and i were inseparable from that day on.... and i have loved animals ever since. i love all animals....but this love started on that horrible day in san francisco.

NATURE!
Either you do or you don't love a dog or a cat.
Most compassionate people tend to love animals.
All animals deserve to be treated with love and respect just as you do.
However I am not a cat lover, never have been one, and won't ever be one though I don't want to harm them or see them hurt either. I picked up a kitten out of the road that was sick, infested with fleas, etc. and found it a home, but that is the extent of my relationship with cats. This is however a DOG board too, and that is why I am here, I am 100% a DOG person.

It's quite sad.. You can't particularly change the system as a entire. However when you did undertake 20 puppies, you might be altering the whole world of these certain puppies. And each cent the ASPCA will get goes toward altering the worlds of every animal they are able to aid. It appears small, but it's a small victory. If no person did all of those matters, there could be 100 times more abused animals. It does make a big change to every character, which is normally what you must take when the motive as a whole is so colossal.[=

I've always been a dog lover. They are the best! I think its because when I was born I had a dog so there was always an animal there. I think they should be treated with love and respect because that is how they treat us and they are so caring and they are more forgiving than most people. Go dogs!

This may sound crazy but, I have always had a way with dogs. Since I was a child. It seems that I have an ability to communicate with dogs. Don't laugh! My friends say it is because I was a dog in a previous life. I know that dogs are sentient creatures
I wanted to become a vet but after college I was not accepted into medical school. So, now I work & live with dogs. And try to help people understand dogs. It is just who I am.

I have always been interested in animals.I used to hate dogs cause they would jump all over me as a child. But now that i am grown up, if I had the room and the time i would have as many different types of pets as i could. My last boyfriend gave me a American Pit Bull and i didn't even want it, i was worried that it would be me or something. But over time i raised it in the house with my two cats and it became my best friend. I was always up for going outside and throwing the Frisbee for my dog and no matter how many time i left her all alone, while at work, she was ALWAYS happy to see me and wanted attention. she was a well behaved dog, just like a cat almost. She loved going for rides in my truck and she knew my personalty, whatever mood i was in she could change it to a good one and take my mind off all my worries!! Now i love dogs the best! But its hard to rent a home/apartment with a pit bull so stick to 30pounds or less.

My family has always had a cat or a dog so I loved animals from a very early age. They are so cute and fluffy and seem to really love you when you are nice to them. I have loved cats and dogs for as long as I can remember.

I loved animals and I still do. All you have to do is spend time and be nice to them. They won't bite or chase you or bark or scratch if you are just nice. If your dog/cat knows you as the meanest pet owner they ever had then they will obviously hurt you when you come by because they are afraid. Just be nice and love and respect them. All dogs are nice at heart, it's just the owner that make them mean. And that is a true statement.

I can't remember NOT loving animals and thinking they should be treated with love and respect. My mom grew up on a farm with all kinds of critters and she's the one responsible for instilling the love of animals in me. I've done my best to pass it on to my kids as well.
PS - My son and I are forbidden by the rest of the family from going to the local shelter because we're the ones who want to bring at least two more home! ;-)
