does anyone know how many years it takes to major in this

You certainly could major in it, as a sort of personal trainer.. But if she wants to be the big boss.. then she'll have to go to medical school.

That would be 4 years undergrad, 4 years med school, 3-5 years residency +/- 1 for fellowship in sports medicine.

Sports medicine can be a 4-8 yr major, depending on if she decided to go further and pick a specialty like orthopedic surgery with sports medicine as her minor. My son wants to major in sports meds and I suggested for him to specialize in orthopedic surgery as well, more opportunity.
