I went to get my mail the other day and I noticed that all of the letters in my name were on the top along with a business card for a private investigator. One of my letters looked like someone had tried (or was going to) open it. Shortly after (the next day) I got a call on my cell phone with no number or name on the caller id by a man claiming to be an old friend. I said he had the wrong # and hung up. I don't like the feeling of being watched and do not like feeling like my mail was tampered with. What action, if any could I take?

as of now you can't do anything cause no one really saw anything, and as far as the business card goes my only advice is to call and see what he wants but trust me if he asks you ANY questions, DO NOT DO NOT DO NOT, answer them. just try to find out what he wants and unless he mentions any names to you about someone trying to look for you don't tell him anything about yourself, normally if they left their business card it's usually okay for you since the job of a private investigator is to make sure you don't they are watching you, trust me on this i do this for a living. feel free to email me if you have any questions

Take the mail that could have been tampered with and the guy's business card to the post office. Tampering with mail is a federal offense.

keep the card if your mail is tampered with then that is a federal offense , as to the other stuff private investigator can while not legal do what they feel they need to do to get information not always legal but then what is your recourse is their a reason why a private eye is watching you

well lets see here. depending on what state you live in the laws are a little different but by in by it goes like this. p.i's can't go though your mail at anytime unless you have given written permission (federal law) as far as being watched that another thing. while they legally can't film you while in you house( i mean putting in hidden cameras) they can watch and film you anywhere that you are in plain site. so at the mall, supermarket, in front of the house, or in the house if you can be seen though an open window from the streets. and unless they have made threats i.e "I'm going to kill, hurt,or get you" this is legal. if they have made threats it falls under the stalking. but some kind threat must be made. as far as your personal information it is far easier too get it then you might think. Try this go to zabasearch.com(one word) and type in your info. name, date of birth(or anyone you know) and see what you get. there are 100's of site just like that one all over the web. if you think that you are a victim of a stalker contact your local police dept. they can help
