We're taking two cats on a 10 hour car trip, because we're moving to a new house. I know this can be stressful on them (and us). Can any one recommend a kitty valium or something?

I moved 3 kitties 1,000 miles, so from personal experience...

1/2 a Dramamine (as recommended by my vet) works great but more important than that is if you can keep them comfortable. I got a rather large pet carrier (big enough for all 3 of them) and packed up some essential supplies. The first thing that is a must is a litter box, food, water, toys and also I put in the carrier one of their favorite blankets.

Keeping your kitties together will go along way to making them comfortable. I would suggest that you NOT give them anything in the beginning and then give them the Dramamine if they get way stressed.

If you have someone traveling with you it is very good to let them out every so often... maybe in shifts. I also took along a collar and leash so I could get them out for little walks along the way.

The best advice I can give is to get a bountiful supply of catnip and just let them have fun with it.

Good Luck with the move... may you have good kitty mojo along the way!

A vet can give her a seditive that will keep her calm. Get it from the vet and follow the instructions carefully. You may also want to try is once a few days before to see how your cat will react and to try giving it to her as many cats dislike pills. most owners of nervous cats will use this during a long, necessary trip. It's much easier than riding for several hours with a howling cat.

Be extremely careful what you give to an animal whether cat or dog. Tylenol can be fatal to animals and Benedryl or other medicines can have a content of Tylenol as it's very prevalent in most medicines. Your best bet is talk to a vet and ask them. It may cost you some money for them to give you a sedative but you will know it will be safe or the information you get correct and if you have to pay a little to get that peace of mind it's worth it for a pet that you love and loves you. At the very least call around to some vets and ask their suggestions.

I traveled across country with 2 cats. One was an outdoor moma cat who had become a little wild and the other was a kitten. I provided her usual bed. Food, water, places to hide, (I was taking the plants back in my van and my company. The first fifty miles I played the music real loud and didn't open the door for anything. By the end of the trip we were all the best of friend with both cats sleeping in my lap or the seat beside me. Moma kitty became a real close companion at the new house. Medicine would have made the bond impossible.

It would be in the best intrest of the cat to contact your vet and tell them you are moving and its a 10 hour trip. If you know the weight of your cat he will be able to prescribe something that will keep the cat calm. I work in a vet clinic and we would prescribe Acevet, your vet should be familier with that drug and it is safe. You give it at least an hour before you leave. Good Luck

You go to your vet and they give you a sedative pill that you give the cat the morning of the move. It makes them sleepy and helps a LOT. Don't forget to take away their food the night before though or they can get nauseus! Also make sure they're in their carrier!!

I love cats! I know, i's not a guy thing, but they are so cool!
I have taken cats on long trips and didn't give them anything. They get use to it pretty soon.

They make some homeopathic remedies for cats to treat anxiety. You might try one of those. Using Feliway may help. You could spray some in the car maybe.

Go to the vet and get them kitty quailudes. That's what I did when my cat freaked out when I moved him to a new house. It will make them relaxed and maybe even put them to sleep.
