Quoted from Pandora
by Micha F. Lindemans

In Greek mythology, Pandora was the first woman on earth. Zeus ordered Hephaestus, the god of craftsmanship, to create her and he did, using water and earth. The gods endowed her with many talents; Aphrodite gave her beauty, Apollo music, Hermes persuasion, and so forth. Hence her name: Pandora, "all-gifted".
When Prometheus stole fire from heaven, Zeus took vengeance by presenting Pandora to Epimetheus, Prometheus' brother. With her, Pandora had a jar which she was not to open under any circumstance. Impelled by her natural curiosity, Pandora opened the jar, and all evil contained escaped and spread over the earth. She hastened to close the lid, but the whole contents of the jar had escaped, except for one thing which lay at the bottom, and that was Hope.

Pandora was the Ancient Greek equivalent of Eve.
The first woman on earth, who was told not to do something (Pandora-box, Eve-apple), but she did it coz she is was a typical nosey woman, and now the whole human race has to suffer for rest of time.

Being called Pandora's Box is not a compliment. It means that you carry all the evil sh!t that exists in the world.

You are a mean person! ...or box

In short, Pandora had access to a box that she had been told never to open. Unable to control her curiosity, she opened the box, and all the troubles of the world came flying out of it.

For a total stranger to make such a remark to someone he/she didn't know, it would indicate that the total stranger is totally strange.

Just to add to what others have said: Pandora was sort of put in charge of the box, but warned never to open it. She held out for ages, but in the end curiosity got the better of her and she opened it ... and, indeed, all the "evils" of the world escaped.

As she struggled to close the box - somewhat too late! - there was one further 'thing' that pleaded to be let out. This was "hope", which she of course released as a counter to all the other evils.

Did he perhaps say you were the only thing left in Pandora's box? ie Hope- for the world. That's a lovely compliment.

It goes something like PB contained all the evil in the world and once opened this was let out but the box only now contains hope. I think this person may have been saying you looked like a whole heap of trouble-in a good way!
