sadly its going to hurt no matter what. But it will hurt a lot less if you're just upfront about it. When you try to be too nice about it to spare that person from hurting too much, you only end up hurting them more in the end. if you tell someone "im not looking for a relationship" or "im not ready" it might lead the person on to think that there's a slight possibility, and when someone likes someone even the slightest chance can build up high hopes. Nothing beats honesty, that person deserves to know your true feelings, even if it hurts,..

Depending on the age of the person you are talking about. If they are young (or immature) then explain the reasons that it is not going to be allowed or that you dont want to do what they've asked. This way you justify your reason for saying no to them.
Sometimes saying no is hard to say to people that you are really close too, but you obviously have your reasons. If its something that you really feel strongly about then you shouldn't be so worried about their feelings. Just make sure your saying no for the right reasons. Good Luck

No. No is a complete sentence. It often will spare feelings in the long run to skip the dancing around and just say no. Like a band-aid. Right off.

sometimes you can't say no without hurting someones feelings, just be gentle as possible. It is better to be truthful than to give false hope.In the long run it is just kinder to just say no up front.

Sometimes you just can't do it --- (like - 'no' - for lending money, or sharing intimacy, or secrets)
At those times, it helps you (not necessarily the other person) to say something like ---
I really hate to hurt your feelings, but . . . I must say no.
You don't 'owe' anybody reasons or explanations for your denial, either . . . BUT - if you choose to elaborate, and give some reason, be prepared to discuss it . . . or injure their feelings, again!

Well, it really depends on what you're telling them no to. Just let them down easy, be perky, and let them know that you don't think of them any differently or something. I don't, it's really hard to say without knowing the situation....just explain it to them.

I think you are really worried about your own feelings when a selfish person has a hissey fit when deprived of their selfish wants.

"NO" and smile while you say it or do what my family does to me when I am stranded with a broken down vehicle not far in a downpour with my kids for 12 hours. "SORRY I can't help you with that"
