I am a current flight attendant. First to be a flight attendant you must work out of the airlines hub, for example I live in Milwaukee, the Home base airline for Midwest and Skyway (Midwest Connect) I simply applied at the headquarters which was really close to the airport. You also need to live close to that airport because alot of airlines demand a :reserve status" for new employees which means you have"X" amount of time to get to the airport for a flight. ex. you dont have a schedule...they call you. It was a little over 2 months training which was paid, (depends on the airline) About a month of Ground School Training and the rest was Initial Operation Experience I.O.E, in which you get to fly with a checked flight attendant.
People think a flight attendant is a glorified waitress in the air. WRONG! Its alot of hard work and training so be prepared. Good luck!

Frontier airlines was just featured on the travel channel...multi-part series on how to becomea stewardess and the training. Check the Frontier Airlines web site for hiring information...they have a world-class training facility in Denver.....and a house that the flight attendants stay in during their training

The major airlines are not hiring, you will have to look at smaller airlines, low cost carriers, regional airlines and charters.
Training is 3-6 weeks unpaid, the first year you are oncall and make very very very little money.
A few airlines to start:
Southwest
America West
Air Tran
ASA or Comair (Delta Connection)
Sky West
United Express
American Eagle
Continental Express
USA 3000
Sun Country
Spirit
Allegiant
Jet Blue
Ted
ATA
Frontier
Aloha
Hawaiian

just go to any airline website, click on careers ... you can apply online. You must be able to lift 70lbs over your head easily and they usually have height restrictions becuae they dont want employees bending inthe galleys ... other than that, the airlines train you ... good luck!

go to the career section of an airlines website, submit your resume, and then they will relpy, or you can see when that airline has a job fair in your area, or you can go to their headquarters and ask them, then they will send you to flight attendent training, and then your working for the airline!
