nah man, that stuff is like mustard, it keeps forever. in fact, its a lot easier to spread leavin out than putting in the fridge, less you like bending butterknives...

I almost dirvorced my husband over this question! I keep everything on the fridge...including my peanut butter. He doesn't! After much dillema we decided this: If we use the crunchy kind we won't keep in the fridge because it gets to hard to spread. However, if its the smooth kind than it's ok to keep it on the fridge.
Also...natural peanut butter (the kind you buy at special whole foods store) does need to be kept on the fridge. It doesn't have any preservatives in it so it goes bad rather quickly.

Personal pref.
As a kid we never did, but we went though it pretty fast, like a jar a month. I think regular PB has enough salt in it to keep. And generally peanuts are not a Fridge item so I don't worry about it.
But if you buy "all natural" might want to keep it in the fridge, or if you need your foods to have a super fresh flavor, or don't go through them very fast... fridge it is.

Only natural (like Adams) or homemade peanut butters need to be refrigerated. Stuff like Skippy and Jif do not.
Why? The oils in good old PB have been stabilized by hydrogenation and won't easily go rancid. Natural PB has no preservatives or stabilizers added and will go rancid if not refrigerated.
You know you have natural PB if the oil rises to the top of the jar and need to be stirred into the lower layer of peanuts before use.

My parents keep on doing that back then. The peanut butter always turned out too hard and sticky for me to eat. So, like me, I suggest you keep it OUT of the fridge ~ that is, if you want it to be edible.

Depends on what kind it is. Usually the all natural peanut butters need to be refrigerated after opening. Otherwise it can be kept in the cupboard

you can. It will keep the ants out of it anyway.
I lived in a house with ants once...i made a peanut butter sandwich and after eating almost all of it, noticed it was full of ants! YUCK! the whole jar had ants in it.
so now, i keep it in the fridge, just incase!

No, just keep the lid on tight. Putting it in the fridge will do little except make it harder to spread.
