Yes I believe that spirituality and service are closely related.
Spirituality has to do with our faith, our morals, our devotion to God. Service according to these aspects (sharing your faith with others, applying your morals to your life, giving your life to God, etc.) are the result of such faith, such beliefs, such devotion.
Also, the Bible explains this:
John 3:16 says "For God loved the world so much that he gave his only-begotten Son, in order that everyone exercising faith in him might not be destroyed but have everlasting life." EXERCISING denotes action, doing something.
James 2:26 says "Indeed, as the body without spirit is dead, so also faith without works is dead."
So just as the body is useless with out the spirit, faith is really useless without works, actions, living in harmony with that faith.

All that "karma" theme, could be explained in few words.
All service to make conscious about your role in the world, is rewarded sooner or later. Also has a costs of time, energy and will. So if you want a return of good energy make a good service...and feel spiritually good.
Don't apply for submission, slavery, hypocrisy and similar.

Jesus came to serve the folks at the very bottom of society-what could be more spiritual than being like Jesus?

Jesus came not to be served but to serve. He was the servant of all - we should follow His example.
