Hello!! I'm the wife of a Drill Sergeant on Fort Sill. If he hasn't even left for BCT (basic training) yet, there's not much I can do to help. He'll have to go to reception station first. They spend varying amounts of time there depending on when the next class starts. Once he gets to his BCT unit, he'll contact you with his address and all the other important information. Once you know his unit, you can also find dates/times online. (Check the source.) I suggest as soon as you know, that you book a hotel. The hotels fill up fast. As for visiting him, you'll only have graduation. Families start coming in a couple days prior and have some free time to visit. He'll have to spend nights in the barracks. He can't stay with you. Usually within 48 hours or so after graduation, they're shipped off to their next school. I'll be happy to help in any area that I can. If you have additional details, please add details here and I'll find out.
Also, depending on which unit his BCT is with, you'll receive mail or e-mails with updates. Just don't expect to hear from your son a whole lot. This is the most important training he'll get. He won't have much free time and he's going to be very tired.
We had over 10 days strait of 100's. Tell him he better start to like water. Good luck and thanks for the question. Please be proud of him and support his decision.

Your son has not even started "basic" yet, he has to inprocess at reception first. After he has completed that, he will start basic. His chain of command will send home a letter a few weeks before graduation giving you the specific date and time and location of graduation. Usually, families will get family day the day before graduation with an on post pass, and after graduation they will have an off post pass. The next day they will board the buses for AIT. It does vary by installation, and passes can be cancelled if the soldier does something to screw up, so be flexible (in the army, nothing is written in stone until the mission is over). He should call you within 72 hours of arriving at reception to tell you he is there, but don't expect any other phone calls for several weeks (they don't like to let them call because they get too worked up about stuff going on at home that only they can fix, etc, etc, and he has to earn phone priviledges). Don't send him any food or clothes or anything like that in basic, only writing stuff, religious materials, and military stuff. He will let you know in letters if he needs any specific items and if he is allowed any special priviledges.

fort Bragg is residing house of the 82nd Airborne branch, and the 18th Airborne Corps. There are numerous container Artillery units in the two that he could nicely be assigned to as an Airborne Artilleryman. Congrats!! :)
