IT DEPENDS ON WHAT YOU CONSIDER TO BE DESSERT !

I would ONLY EAT HALF MY DINNER ....if I was in a hurry for various reasons:

(a) I was on a timed schedule to be at another destination and it took so long to cook my meal ,that I barely had time to eat half of it; let alone, get to my already awaiting prescheduled endeavor.

(b)Or if I DID NOT like my meal for what ever reason(not what I ordered; or not how I ordered it).

(c) It was an uncomfortable atmosphere(loud;too crowded;staff attitude)

(d) I would only eat half my dinner or less.....If I was looking across the table at my dessert and it(the dessert) was ready for dessert also. So we would leave immediately and eat the rest of the dinners for tomorrow.

I WOULD EAT MY ENTIRE DINNER if the dessert sitting across from me was more so demanding than average. So I make sure I eat enough to maintain my stamina/libido/vigor/umph to devour my dessert.

Besides.........There is NO SUCH THING as a SMALL PORTION in any restaurant.

I disagree that there are no small portions. In fancier restaurants I often go home for a sandwich after dinner becuase the portions are so small. But to answer your question, yes. I have been known to do that. I always look at the dessert menu when I order my main and have something in mind for later. If I feel myself slowing down, I ask them to pack the rest of my main for me. No shame in it cos lots of people do it. My father has been known to eat pudding instead of an entree because you never know what will happen as they say.

Sounds like a good idea, specially if you have a desert in mind. Also you take the rest home and have another meal taken care of, what more could you ask for.

If you're planning on having dessert it would be wise to not order anything too heavy. Drinking sodas at dinner can also fill you up very quickly. I have gotten very full but still ordered dessert. You can always take the dessert home with you depending on what you get I guess.

Obesity is a sign of greed and somebody who eats more than their fair share. Stop being greedy, you don't need to eat till your bursting or full up. something in your stomach is better than nothing in your stomach. As confucious says "Happiness is a full stomach the rest is luxury. Why peopel eat to the degree of bursting is beyond me as well as people who eat for the sake of eating when they are not hungry. Start listening to your body, when its had enough its had enough. Do you go to the tolilet when you dont have to? sleep when you dont have to? So why eat when you dont have to? Buy yourself a trough and put a snout on if you want to behave like a greedy and pig do it properly. God I detest greedy people when millions are starving.

i think it's the person's own option. if they want to save room for dessert and bring the rest home. they could also just order a smaller serving of what they want and eat their dessert. or, another option being eating all the food and getting dessert next time.

but, if you're a pig, you could just eat everything.

I eat all of my dinner then rest a while, maybe have a drink, then move right on to dessert. But your way is probably a bit more practical.
