well, i'm supposed to go to Germany for a week or so, and i wanna know some stuff, as in some words, in German, so i can get around without problems. i have just a basic knowledge of German. what words should i know? it's ok if u just write them in English, it's BEST ANSWER material if u write them down in English and with their German translation ;)

The Germans are an intelligent people and the younger generation speaks at lest two or three languages among them is English if they like too. Have a nice time in Germany. Küss.

Rick Steves puts out GREAT books with simple but vital expressions for travelers. Best of all, it includes pronounciations. I used his French one for a trip to Quebec City and I got along fabulously!

Italian and Spanish....Italian in view that it's aspect of my nationality and this can be a lovely language...and spanish in view that it's predominant for my profession within the scientific subject.
