There's a really good product called "Straight+" by All Nutrient. It's only available at salons, but you can check it out at http://www.sukesha.com

Try letting it air dry, without brushing it. Stop washing it for a week, too. Sounds gross, but if its frizzy, thats something it needs to be restored to its natural health.
There ARE hair straighteners that wont burn your hair, also.

I know you dont want to use a straightener, though, so just try wither air drying it (if its frizzy) and if that doesnt work, then blow dry it. Theres a product out there by redken that will keep it from being stringy, too. Try using a little tiny bit of gel, (if your hair is not frizzy, I am not sure what you mean by puffy, sorry) like a dime sized amount for every 6 inches of length. there are other things you can do, also.
Like, you can put your hair in a ponytail and do a loose braid. If you use gel, make sure that you take the braid out before it is completely dried, and then allow it to air dry. Dont shake the hair out too much.
Another thing you can do, lol, is to just use some barrettes and hair gel, and flatten down a little comb over in the front, which is very dramatic looking, and a little sparkly barrette can really add just the right touch. Do a deep part from left to right, maybe an inch or so past your center part, gel it down, and then do the same with the little section on the other side, and you might feel like your hair is at least out of your face.
I actually think that "big hair" is beautiful. Many supermodels have it, so perhaps the easiest thing to do is to play it up more, and be proud of having such voluminous hair.
Good luck to you!!!!!!

I personally use a Deep Conditioner and sit with it in my hair for about 30 minutes then I oil my scalp with hair and scalp treatment grease. After it dries while it's wrapped....all I have to do is use my Ceramic Plate Flat Iron just for shape. Not only will your hair be straight and bouncy but it will not be scorched from the the flat Iron. The ceramic plates don't burn your hair and it actually brings out the natural shine in your hair.
Try it....Good Luck

Use a good straightening serum like John Freida's Frizz Ease.
It won't look AS frizzy, but the only way that you're going to get it completely flat is by using a straightening iron.

use sunsilk's "Poofy Hair" line of shampoo, conditioner and leave in ....they're VERY affordable (less than frizz ease) and have managed to make the mop on top of my head managable and pretty again. i've tried all the products from john frieda to bed head and disturbingly expensive stuff, this actually works and i'm sooo happy with it.

Well go to the salon and ask for permanent strait hair and you don't have to worry about straighting in it all the time.

if you have dry hair and a good straightener, your hair won't burn. try a Conair. but, if you really are paranoid still, you could try straightening gel.
