I believe the reason why some people think Christians are terrible is because of God. God requires accountability, he gives us the definition of sin and many people don't like it. People do not want to be told how to live life, they don't want to be told what is right and wrong. They also don't want to be told that there is consequences to their actions. If I choose to sin that is my business and you have no right telling what I am doing is wrong - that is belief system of many individuals in our soceity. Yes, Christians can become hyprocrites and straddle the fence about morality and cause division among themselves in churches and family. But the bottom line, there is no one perfect and we all make mistakes on a regular basis - even Christians makes mistakes and sometimes they make big ones. Our fleshly desires don't like to be around people who are better than us. God who is so perfect and so holy requires a life full of holiness and that is something many people don't appreciate. It is the Christians responsibility to tell the truth about heaven and hell, if people choose not to listen, they condemn themselves and its their fault that they end up in hell. At least that is what the Bible teaches. Thank God for grace, thank God for Jesus, thank God for deliverance from sin and hell. Without him, we all would be lost in our own guilt and shame. a lot of atheists and unbelievers have not understood just how much God loves them and gave up everything to save them from eternal destruction. They only see God as a mean judge, they don't see the merciful, forgiving savior who loves people. If they only knew, their lives would be so different. Don't look at the Christians who have fallen, look at the Creator of heaven and earth who loves you and cares about you and he never has made a mistake - he is the one you should compare your life to. Because in the end, he is the one who either lets you into Heaven or kicks you out because you never accepted his love. The choice is yours.

It happens on both sides. Cause and effect. One side is rude, the other responds.
I don't really see how other people -- non believers if you want to call them as such -- are trying to "convince others" that Christians are bad. I see a lot of people sharing the bad experiences they've had with Christians in the past as testimony for why they've given up the church. I see it used as examples. I don't, however, see it seriously used as negative content. Emphasis on the word 'seriously'. Those who want to rile people up will come onto this site and say whatever they think will get people the most upset. There you have it.
Also, keep an eye on comments and thoughts like this. Here you are saying "Christians aren't so bad, it's that other side that is wrong". That's..a little judgmental. And as a lot of commenters have said..that is why they tend to think that Christians aren't such a good group.

resurrectionist is right on target. Don't you see how your religion, because of those beliefs, is inherently evil? Not just bad, EVIL. What's the difference between saying, "Non-Christians are going to hell." and "White people are better than everyone."? There is no difference. If you think racism is wrong and you're a Christian, then you're also a hypocrite.
Not only that, the Christian fundies are counting down to End Days. Do you not see how such an outlook to the future is dangerous to the world as a whole?
Ignorance is everyones problem. Religious fundamentalism ENCOURAGES ignorance.
You're trying to save us from a threat that doesn't exist.
We're trying to save you from the chains of ignorance.

I have few problems with Christians themselves. On the other hand, I have issues with the christian religion itself. It preaches people and acceptance, yet it also spouts on that it is the only true religion. The christian church's actions all but violate every one of the teaching of their messiah. Most of all though, the christian church is based on false assumptions and some down right lies, and worst of all is that they know it and do nothing. Christianity, especially the christian church, lives by the principle of "do as I say, not as I do."
The only thing I hold against Christians in general is that they don't actually look at the truth behind the traditions of misunderstanding. They believe in things, that if you actually look at them with an unbiased eye, are really insane. They blindly follow things that are no where in the actual books they use as guides, and follow men who are no more holy then they themselves are. Christians miss the entire message of their messiah, all because they blindly follow a church who has been telling lies so long, it doesn't even remember the truth.

People do horrible and/or stupid things all the time. There's no such thing as a good or bad person. I personally think, if you have a TV and there's someone else who can't eat, you are a sinner. Anyway, the Bible teaches Christians to be discriminatory and have superiority complexes. Christians also like to insert their beliefs into other people's lives. So there you go.

Atheist, here is what you need to know to set these dumb Christians straight:
1) Inform them of how brainwashed they are. We atheists believe in free thinking, so if anyone doesnt think like we do then they are brainwashed. Everyone is allowed to think freely but if they dont choose to be an atheist it must mean they are brainwashed. Makes sense right?
2) Tell them that Christianity is at the heart of all evil. This is so true. Well, except for all of the wars like World War I, II, Vietnam War,Korean War...so umm better not bring up the topic of wars. Oh yea and 99.9% of people in prision for evil actions have nothing to do with Christianity - but dont worry Christians are usually too dumb to point out these obvious things.
3) Slam them on their Bible. I mean it was written like thousands of years ago with a bunch of translations and by like 50 different authors. I mean it is just a dumb book right? So what if it comments on every element of human nature which is just as true today as it was yesterday. And so what if there is a remarkable harmony with all the writers of the bible despite the fact that they wrote over many different centuries. Who cares it has practical relevant advice on every area of life from business to marriage to healthy living. And its irrelevent that the Bible contains many prophecies which have come true and are unfolding at this very moment. I mean other books have done the same thing...havent they?
4) Tell the Christians that the world would be better without them. I know that every nation with a Christian foundation has prospered and gives great freedoms to its people compared to other nations. So what. And look at all the great atheist countries...well omm scratch that
I hope athiests here find this helpful.

Ok, so here's a P.O.V. from another Christian. People think that Christians are hateful and mean because honestly (and very sadly), the majority of Christians are very judgmental and negative toward those who are not Christians, and they are also very judgmental and negative toward other Christians who either don't believe exactly as they do or who they percieve as being "in sin." I stopped going to church about a year ago because every church I went to was full of people who wouldn't accept anyone who was less perfect than they were (or thought they were). I was looked down upon because I don't live up to all their moral standards, and I'm not exactly a conservative. And it wasn't uncommon for me to overhear church members gossipping about the shortcomings of other church members. Not to mention that if a homeless person came into the church, instead of being welcomed and helped like Jesus would have, they would be shunned because they didn't have on the right clothing or the right behavior.
As for the thing about "non-Christians are going to hell," that's a pretty negative statement. I understand that you believe that it's true, and personally, so do I- but not everyone believes so, and it is a statement that offends people. If your method of trying to reach people for Jesus involves telling them that they're going to hell, you probably won't get many converts, and those who do will probably be doing it out of fear. If you want to help others like Jesus did, then HELP them. Go work at a volunteer organization that helps homeless people or abuse victims. Mentor an underpriveleged kid. DO something. Get your hands dirty. When Jesus healed people or helped people, he didn't tell them "you have to convert or I'm not going to help you," or "I'll help you but you're still going to hell." He simply loved and served, and people believed in him because they saw his actions. If you want to help people, don't just get in their face and tell them that they're wrong and they're going to hell. Help them, love them the way Christ loved the needy, and you might get better results. If all Christians did this like they're supposed to, than maybe the world would stop thinking that we're all horrible, judgmental people.

I've asked this myself a few times. Non Christians constantly claim Christians hate them and send them to hell all the time and I rarely if ever see that here. However, no one can ask a legitimate question about Christianity without some bored teenager flaming them. Probably, they're affraid that if they accept that Christians arent all evil (there are indeed some) and actually have intelligent minds that they MIGHT have to grow up and stop throwing stones.

People think Christians are such horrible people because they condemn and judge anyone that does not conform to their beliefs.
They always quote from the bible like its an encylocpedia or something. I think the criticism of Christians is just a reflection of what hateful things they say to non-believers. What goes around comes around.

Perhaps...
People have had experiences with so-call Christians. Meaning, people that claim to be Christians but don't walk the walk that they talk. Some Christians are legalistic or judgmental. Some that say they are Christian just aren't; they want to leave a mean and hateful message so it will push others away from Christianity.
Then there are some that just don't understand that Jesus teaches and preached on Love. Love; God Our Father first; Love one another as Jesus loves us.
I used to be a sinner (not that I couldn't or wouldn't sin again) BUT I am a new creation in Christ! I am not my old person...I am made new! Every morning, afternoon and evening; I renew myself in Him. ((This isn't done in the flesh; it's done in the Spirit!))
I agree on not judging or condemning others. It's not my job, nor do I want it. One day everyone will be judged and held accountable. I don't want to be judged by the measurement of judgment that I judged. It doesn’t mean I condone what others do; but that's between them and God Our Father.
I want my "Lifesong" (Casting Crowns) to be the model for my life. I want my life to glorify God; I want to share his message, to those that want to hear of His Love. I want my walk of faith to speak volumes over anything that I say.
For those that don't want to hear the "Good News" I will leave them alone until they are ready...but a word to the wise...
They are watching our every move. Let's show them how we (Christians) do it!
Grace to you and God Bless!
To those reading this...
((Has Jesus ROCKED your world lately? If not; it's time to re-new your relationship!!!)) Jesus has ROCKED my world and I couldn't imagine my life without him!!!
