My kitten is 4 months old and my cat is 9 years old. He keeps eating my cat's food, I guess he doesn't like his Science Diet kitty food. Is it too soon to give him regular adult food? I don't want to do it, but is it harmful?
Thanks! :)

Kitten food has the proper amount of protein and nutrients that are needed for kittens. Adult food is made with less protein and carbohydrates for adult cat nutrition. It is OK that your kitten is eating adult food it just isn't the best idea.

To encourage kitten food you might try getting a few cans of canned kitten food and the kitten twice a day a half can. You might get some senior canned food for your older cat and feed them at the same time, while dry food is offered all day. Try the kitten canned food at least until your kitten is 6 months old and then they can share the same diet.

Your older cat should be switched to a senior diet they have less protein which is hard for the kidneys to digest and in the long run a can result in decrease kidney function. When your kitten gets to be 6 months it wont hurt for him to eat. Just keep using a science diet or other higher quality brand.

Of course. Cats hunt right? And sometimes they eat what they catch right? Well it's just the same. Don't worry, see, my dad accidently bought senior cat food and my kittens 10 months old and he's fine

Anergen is a food that both kittens and adults can eat. It is organic and actually so mild that puppies and dogs can eat it too... I switched to it when my 3 month old doberman was eating my 2 year old Boston's food. It's really healthy for them too!!

My 1yr cat has been eating my adult cats food since she was little and is is doing ok. I feed them Iams indoor food in a green bag. It works differently for each cats digestive system.

If its high quality cat food, it is better than store brand kitten food anyway.
My kittens always eat adult cat food, and they look so much better than when I gave them kitten food!

It wont kill it but kitten food is much easier for the babies to chew b/c its smaller and a bit softer, and it has the nutrients they need to grow up healthy. Purina Kitten Chow is a fav. its not so pricey either.

Actually they shouldn't because there is a lot of extra nutrients in kitten food they need and if they don't get what they need they could be deficient in some vitamin and get sick
