I've got a theory on this... After World War II we started making a lot of Artificial ingredients (High Fructose Corn Syrup, Enriched White Flour, etc.) and people started to get more fat. These ingredients do have bad effects on people that cause extra fat to be stored inside the body because it doesn't burn off correctly. The reasoning for this is that they are able to provide much cheaper foods in much more abundance.
People are to blame, I mean the servings of food have gone up considerably at the same time that they are adding these artificial ingredients. People just eat too much and don't work out. We used to walk more, work more labor type works, etc.
Drunker.... well ****, we just drink lol. It was never diagnosed as a problem before. I bet there were a bunch of drunks before but there was no diagnosis because it was most likely normal but now we just notice it is all.

I think that trend is actually going to change a little bit. Fast food and the like got us here, but now if you look around, suddenly most places are carrying healthier alternatives. Being healthy is suddenly trendy again. Disney cancelled their partnership with McDonalds, all sorts of places are serving up healthy food, etc.
