Yes, an unspayed female will go into heat every 5-9 months, this is called a "heat". She will get her first heat at 6-12 months of age and they will last roughly 21 days. The way a dogs "cycle" goes is like this:
The initial stage (proestrus) lasts an average of nine days (range is 3-17 days). The first sign is a bloody discharge from the vulva. During this period, she makes chemical substances called pheromones. These substances attract the males, although many stud dogs will not show a strong interest in her yet, nor will she be willing to accept them.
The second phase is called estrus, or standing heat. It is when the female is willing to breed. Estrus lasts 7-9 days (the range is 2-20).
If she becomes pregnant during this stage, she will carry the pups for 56-58 days followed by whelping (birthing the pups). After this comes the fourth phase (Anestrus) which is pretty much the time between heats where you can sit back and relax - you survived it!

well, sort of. when lets say a female human ovulates, then about 12 days later she has her period. a female dog ovulates, about twice a year, but she has her period at the same time. because a human is meant to have 1 child and a dog is meant to have several. when a dog goes into heat, it means that she's already released several eggs, so by the time she needs to be fertilized, shes already having her period for eggs are not becoming attached to the uterus.

Its called heats and don't start until around 6 months of age and occur at least twice a year. It depends on the breed to breed. If you want to not got through this, because it can be painful to for the dog to go through her first heat, you can spay her. I would suggest spaying your dog, especially if don't intend to breed her or know nothing of breeding.

Yes, female dogs that are not spayed have periods. I believe they are on monthly cycles like humans. In my experience, our dog did not bleed heavily and kept herself clean. We chose to have her spayed, though, so that we did not have to deal with any possible "messes" from it and for all of the other obvious benefits.

Female dog's do. It is called heat.
Female dogs come into heat every six months, at which point they can get pregnant, and have a litter of puppies. so please be responsible and spay or neuter your animal.
Good luck.

If you don't "fix" ur dog, male dogs will hump and female dogs will get period. my toy poodle had about 2 periods in one year before she was neutered. some guy dogs will still hump (but can't ejaculate) after spaded.
