Definately part pug. I'm sorry about his awful end. Pug are usually pretty sweet. If you go to your humane society again, you might be able to find another pug mix. He/she will probably not look exactly like Rocky, but might be pretty close. Plus, it will make that dog happy.

I'm sure sorry about your family's loss. I especially feel for your grandfather ... he must have felt Terrible! Rocky sure was a cutie! Many seem to think He's a "Puggle". (I once had a beagle-dachshund.) Beagles are supposed to be excellent with children, & other animals including cats (mine was!). I have to agree with several others that each dog has it's own personality & temperment, even within the same breed. Also, you might want to try NOT to get a new pet that will remind you of the one lost ... it seems to take some of the joy out of the new relationship.
Right now I have 2 Large dogs that were wandering ... their prior owner couldn't keep these 'escape atists' in! Not many people want Rottweiller or Shepherd-Bull mix, so we still have them 3 years later! (We also now have a hot-wire fence, & keep something handy to stick in the gate-latch!)
I like to share an on-line series of articles w/ other pet-lovers ...

At a lot (if not all) of the no-kill animal shelters, they try hard to match a new family with a dog just the right temperament for them. I'd surely request that service, esp. since you have children! They test each dog for their responses to children & other pets/cats ...

He definitely was part Pug - he has Pug coloring and Pug eyes - and the other part could be lab - the shape of his ears and tail and the way he is sitting is just like my lab mix - but he is 100% cute. Sometimes it isn't always possible or even a good idea to get another dog exactly like the one you had. No matter what there will only be one Rocky. But I bet there is another dog with his sweet temperament at a humane shelter or no kill shelter just waiting for a mommy and sister!

I am so sorry for your loss, Rocky looks like a real sweetie. His face looks a bit like a cocker with a terrier mix. Only my best guess. I would take his pic to the pound and ask or even better to your vet.
If you go to the pound I am sure you will find another companion. It won't be the same. Part of having an exceptional pet is being an exceptional owner. It sounds like you were.

Looks like a pug lab mix, he's cute, sorry for your loss. He is definately a mixed breed. I wouldn't so much concentrate on getting the same exact dog. I bet if you went back to the pound, anyone of those dogs you got would love you to death, they are forever greatful for pulling them out of that hell. Try that instead.

He's a Puggle!!! I'd bet money that he is a pug-beagle mix, hense Puggle. They are very sweet dogs. Try petfind.org to look for his specific breed in your area. Good luck, dogs are such a joy to an entire family!

That looks like a puggle. You probably got a mistake, now they cost big bucks. That is a cross breed of a pug and a beagle. Sorry to hear about your loss.

He looks like a mix, like lab, beagle.
Just because you get a dog the same breed as the one you had before does NOT mean that they will have the same personality. Trust me, been there, done that, BIG mistake.
Good luck in your search.
