Everything happening today is as a result of things that happened in the past. Therefore what we do today, good or bad, determines tomorrow ( the future). Meaning the consequences of our actions will make tomorrow what it is.

How we treat animals? My goodness, as long as we're killing children by abortion, selling children into pornography, our teenagers are having sex and babies without being married....I believe our animals are just fine.
The poem to which you refer, however, describes that we are in the present. There is nothing we can do about yesterday or tomorrow. But what we do today will be the past, tomorrow.

Conversely, we are yesterday's tomorrows. She means how we treat animals and environment now will affect them tomorrow. Couldn't be more straight forward than that.

We are the people that determine our future. So there is no point blaming the past, we have to act now and gain a more secure and environmentally safe future.

What we do today affects what happens tomorrow, just as what we did yesterday affects what happens today. It's a cause and effect relationship.

I think that's pretty self-explanitory. Yesterday was today's past and today will be tomorrow's past, etc.
