I am going to be moving pretty soon but I don't want to leave my job, which will be 30 minutes away from my new place. Anyone that commutes, is it really tiring? Please let me know, because everyone tells me it is a dumb idea.

I travel about 45 minutes to and from work. Its not that bad especially when you get used to it. Also found books on CD are a great way to pass the time.

It does get tiring. If you're not getting a promotion and a raise it's probably not worth it. 30 minutes is really not all that long though. We travel across Lake Pontchartrain to New Orleans and it takes about 60 minutes when the traffic flows and all is well. If the lake is foggy it can take 3 hours. Your best bet would be trying to car pool. We now go in a van pool it's still a little expensive but at least we don't have to drive, we can nap or read.

My wife drives 230 miles to UNC Chapel Hill 3 times a week. That's nearly 700 miles a week. We bought a VW New Beetle turbo diesel. It gets 50 mpg highway. Thank goodness she will be finished with her PhD next April. I will probably keep the Beetle because I'm certain gas/diesel will not get any cheaper.

Takes me about 33 minutes one way everyday. I work for the States Prision system and the Prison I work for is a total of 33 minutes away. Of course I don't have to be there till 5:45am so traffic isn't a problem...lol!

If you really love your job, then 30 minutes isn't that big a deal, esp. if you have a car thats good on gas .. or just stupid like me, cuz I really don't love my job, and I have a big damn car.....OMG!.. why am I driving so damn far to work!!!!!!

i drive approx. 31 miles one way whick takes anywhere from 40 minutes to 1 hour depending of traffic. i work 12 hours shifts which help alot. if i did not have alot of senority where i work i would find a job closer. i believe gas will continue to rise to about 5 bucks a gallon. i am planning on getting a diesel which get great gas mileage. i am in a catch 22, because if i choose to move closer to work i will have to pay double for the same house. so i will tough it out until i retire or die!!!!!!. unless you are going to get alot better money or benefits then stay where you are at!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i will admit, i am tired of it. i hate fighting rush hour traffic and sitting on the freeway/backroads for 45 mins to 1 hr and 15 mins in the morning and evenings... but you do what you gotta do.

just make sure you have a reliable car, some good tunes (i am looking into satellite radio), and a vehicle good on gas.

good luck!

I do an hour and a half each way daily, which does get tiresome. However, in your case, 1/2 an hour is not bad.
