It happens. Work with your horse patiently on the barrels.

My suggestion.
* Walk the route you want the horse to take
* Trot the route you want the horse to take
* Slow gallop the route you want the horse to take
* Full speed ahead the same route

Keep rewarding the horse for the correct route. Don't be tough on yourself - it happens. Been there and done that.

Well if you went to the wrong barrel first its not the horses fault was it? So why would you have to retrain him?? And if you messed up on your second barrel then thats not your horses fault either.
It sounds like maybe you should get a trainer if you don't already have one and that will make both YOU and your horse better. And if you already have a trainer, find a better one...good trainers are hard to come by so you may have to look around a bit.

First of all, I would suggest stamping and branding that pattern into your head. That's what I did, and to this day (I don't ride anymore :() I can remember exactly how the pattern goes.

Also, when it comes to your horse, the more he goes around it, the more he will get used to it, and soon it will be branded in his head too. I know horses that will do the barrel pattern without anyone riding them! Walk him thru it, trot him thru it, and go fast thru it... and like someone else said, practice practice, practice!

if you mess up on course, dont think about it, it will ruin the rest of it. that is what is taught to the hunters/jumpers. visualize the course in front of you. you cant change the past so keep moving. granted i know that in barrel racing, one mistake means no ribbon but you have to keep that mentality. if you mess up. stop, start over and redo it. there is no shame in taking aminute or two to do some training. most of us have had to it too.

Okay, good you ought to get it into your head that you just ought to loook... i do barrels and leaping. if i appear on the ump I am on then I am overdue going to the following one... When you get into your first flip within the barrel sample have anybody shout "LOOK" to you, then make your self appear to the following barrel. That will deliver your fingers round and make your turns WAY larger....... Have the individual say "LOOK" in any respect 3 turns. After a few runs like that it will have to be pounded into your head. well good fortune!
