Here is the information that maybe helpful. (link below)

I legally changed my name and it was one of the best decisions I have ever made.

It cost me about $250 for court costs and legal fees. I would have done it myself had I known how easy it is.

I had a questionnaire to fill out and petitioned the court for a hearing. The judge basically asked me the same questions that were on the form (under oath that is). It took less than 15 minutes and I was done. The most difficult part was getting accustom to using my new name. It took awhile. Be sure and get certified copies of your name change as you will have to submit one for each change you make for example your SIN/SSI, drivers license, bank accounts, and other legal documents you may have.

Good luck to you. It is relatively easy.

Varies by state. In my state you must petition the circuit court and run a notice in the paper for so many days. Maybe contact your local court house and talk with the clerk. Some Courts have name change packets, making it easy to file. Also, check Vital Statistics in your state. They may have suggestions.

New Hampshire Name Change FAQIn what court must a name change action be filed? In New Hampshire, a name change action is filed in the Probate court in the jurisdiction where the petitioner resides, with appropriate forms.

Who must sign the petition for name change? If the person requesting the name change is under 18 years of age, the action must be filed by a parent or guardian. If the person requesting a name change is an adult, then they sign their petition requesting the name change.

Is there any reason why a petitioner might not be allowed to change their name? Yes. The court must find that the requested name change is consistent with the public interest. This means the court must be satisfied that the reasons for the name change are proper and not detrimental to the interests of anyone else. A person is not allowed to change their name in order to avoid judgments or legal actions, or to avoid ebts and obligations. A person can not change their name to defraud any person.

Must the child agree to the name change? No, but the court may consider the wishes of a child old enough to express their wishes in considering whether to grant the Petition.

Must the parent(s) of the minor agree to the name change? No, but their objections might be sufficient to persuade the Probate Court not to grant the change of name petition.

Is Publication of a Notice Required? Not required by the statute, but, it is left to the discretion of the Probate Court.

Can individuals "object" to the Petition for Name Change? Yes. Any reasonable objections made to the court may influence the court's findings as to whether the change of name is consistent with the public interest.

When will the court likely grant a name change? For an order of name change to be granted, the court must find sufficient reasons for the change and also find it consistent with the public interest. For an adult, change of name upon marriage, dissolution, or divorce meets these requirements. For a minor, the name change must be in the best interest of the child.

well aside from informing any businesses you deal with (banks, credit cards, insurance, place of employment, etc) you must apply for a new driver's lisence and you must contact the social security admin. (it's kind of a pain. if this is because you are getting married....make the changes AFTER your wedding and honeymoon.... as you need a correct id to travel)
