Seriously, my 4th of July was ruined by a Mormon who said that he didn't "believe" in fireworks and therefore he didn't want anyone to light them at the cookout. I did anyways and he flipped out saying he would call the police on me. I wonder if it's his own personal belief or that since it's illegal in the state I live in he'll being doing something against his religion. I am still really confused about this.

He also refused to bring his children to the fireworks display that was being put on in the town. I feel really bad for those kids.

No, he really came to my face, screaming at me saying he doesn't believe in them.

There is definitely nothing in our religion against fireworks. However we do believe on honoring, obeying, and sustaining the law. If it is illegal to use fireworks where you were at, that may have been his issue. Whatever the case, he handled it all wrong. I'm sorry that you didn't get any fireworks. I missed out too, but that's because I was driving home all day.

I'm Mormon and I like fireworks. That guy is just out of his mind! Now, if the 4th of July had been on Sunday, then he may have had an issue with doing things on Sunday in an effort to keep the Sabbath day holy. That's the closest explanation that I can possibly think of.

Whoever your neighbor was, he wasn't telling you about church doctrine. I'm LDS (Mormon,) and frankly, I love fireworks, especially when you can get a block party together and have a blast. I'm also a fan of amusement parks and roller-coasters, which means sometimes I don't act my age. (40+)
I think your neighbor was right to give you fair warning about calling the cops if you were doing something illegal. Yeah, the more explosive fireworks are more fun, but they are more dangerous. Were there little kids around?
Last comment; The 4th of July is not about fireworks. It's about celebrating our country's creation, and the privileges we enjoy here. You neighbor was remembering that responsibility comes before privilege. Do you celebrate America by deciding to violate the laws? What's your message?

No, not really. I live in a town predominantly Mormon, and they have a lot of fun when it comes down to the 4th of July. Everyone in our town gathers around the football field, watch the fireworks go for two hours and we go home. I think what he meant to say was rather that he didn't believe you should be working with the fireworks because it could fire off on one of his children. Maybe he didn't say it right. And, trust me, you don't have to be a Mormon to know how dangerous it is for children to be exposed to fireworks.

What is there not to believe. The fact is that fireworks DO exist. It's like not believing in salt.
Now, not supporting the idea behind the lighting of fireworks on July 4 is something completely different. Maybe your friend just does not believe that we should celebrate a war by sending exploding packets of gunpowder into the sky. I really don't think that it has anything to do with his being Mormon.

Probably the illegal theme. LDS( mormons) have NO belief system with fireworks. We are strong about respecting laws etc. This person is just a few fries short of a happy meal, if he made you think it was a religous connection !

All I got to say is what does that have to do with the price of tea in china? In other words, what you are asking does not have anything to do with the Mormon religion or any religion for that matter. ( OK, Pay attention here. It get's kinda complicated.) [sarcasm] It is his opinion and it is against the law in the state that you live. ( WOW, Blows your mind doesn't it. the fact that it is so simple.) by the where did you get the right to judge others and their religion or whatever?

Sounds like a peculiar dude.
Mormons believe in "obeying the laws of the land". So if they're illegal in your area, he might have had a reason there.
Outside of that, there's no chuch doctrine on the use of fireworks. They're one of the few things that we can light up!

I think that is so funny! HOw do you NOT believe in something that definitely exists! Too friggen wierd! That's like saying I don't believe in cars! He may be against them.......but I doubt it has anything to do with his religion...........or maybe it does in his warped mind. That is pretty strange behavior. Was it HIS cookout? If so.....I'd probably would've been respectful of his wishes. But if not.......screw him....he can go home and not have any fun! lol
