BTW I don't do this. I always give a hand full of change!

How many empty ones do you think the church gets on Sundays?

Believe me, God knows what's in the envelope and remembers who put it in there.

Tithing should be a thing done out of choice, not from pressure or to maintain good appearances. I'm not sure I agree with collection baskets either. I don't think it's the right thing to try and pretend to tithe in front of others. It's the same as lying....if you don't want to tithe, then don't. Why should a person care what others think of them as long as they are ok with it (and you're not breaking the law)? Can you imagine what people would think if someone got caught putting empty envelopes or photocopied money into the collection plate? I would think far less of someone who lied about personally.

as well to the different posters: The previous testomony, The Septuagint [translated from Hebrew to Greek someplace 250 BC] replaced into in positioned on the prompt, used even beforehand Jesus' time. the recent testomony replaced into written 35-one hundred ad and translated to latin by skill of St Jerome, each sometimes four hundred ad. it remains on parchments and skim interior the church, or preached orally. So, there isn't any NEW TESTAMENTS IN A e book/BIBLE style on the prompt compiled with Septuagint.' Bible on my own' theory isn't in life on the prompt as there isn't any e book to call bible. It replaced into using Oral custom up till 1400 even as the 'compiled e book style bible' finally hit the printing press. In different words, it took the Catholic Church about four hundred years of amassing, enhancing, and sorting the historic manuscripts and were given revealed in 1400. there have been also a large style of uninspired writings [apocryphal books] that were floating round that were not cannonized.

Well, first of all, it's not a 'donation'...it's a tithe...which is 10% of everything you earn. No one should worry about what others think...and if the church is worth it's salt, it won't judge anyone for not having the money to tithe. However...it's your reasonable service to tithe 10%. If you want blessings in abundance, give with joy above and beyond. What I don't understand is...with all the other answers here...why do these people even go to church? It's obvious to me they don't have a clue what it's all about!

Wow, sounds like some people are (again) more interested in what other people think, than what they want to (or can)do themselves. If you CAN give to any charity, churches included (I call them a charity because SOME churches do a LOT to help others in need, I know this from personal experience) then.. that's a good thing, right? So, do it, just to make someone feel good, OR don't do it , because you really can't afford to, or just plain don't want to. Simple.

Truly how much someone gives in charity should be between only them and God - and God best knows a person's situation in life! And it shouldn't be anyone's business what one does and doesn't 'give' at church! For those who fear embarrassment I say let them place empty envelopes in the basket - unsealed, so they can be recycled!!!

This isn't a religious answer, but I find some comfort in these words from the song "Signs"( by the Five Man Electrical Band and covered by Tesla)

And the sign says "Everybody welcome Come in Kneel down and pray"
But then they passed around a plate at the end of it all
And I didn't have a penny to pay
So I got me a pen and paper
And I made up my own little sign
I said "Thank you Lord for thinking about me
I'm alive and doing fine"

I think that it is wrong that churches send around collection baskets in the first place. It is a high pressure way to guilt people into giving their money to "God".

I like to put multicolored rhinestones in the collection basket. It makes me look like an eccentric millionaire. Here, have some saphires. And then you laugh a deep bellied laugh. Ah HA HA!

They probably get a lot! The pastor at my church tells us that if you don't have anything to give to at least come around the offering table and wave your hand over it.
