lets be honest here. these groups of people are a burden on our society. we have already past breaking point and this group is only getting bigger. would it not be better to divert the money that is wasted on them to provide a better standard of living to those who are able to contribute back to society.
ok most of you right on liberals are going to think im some kind of nazi for even contemplating this, but these people and i am including the disabled are the reson our schools are crap, waiting lists are so long, you not getting a pension in a decade, and high taxes.
just think about my point for a moment do we really need these people.
if i have ofended you because you are disabled, old or terminally ill, tough im exercising my freedom of speech.

by the way before you say "you wont say that if it was you or your family" my grand father was vitually paralised by a stroke and was force fed for months before he died against his wishes. you wouldnt let a dog suffer like that.

Can we also kill all mentally retarded, all physically handicapped, all homeless, all poor, and all people who don't have an IQ of at least 130.

Hello? That is quite simply not how this country operates. Who are YOU to determine when someone is a burden on society? You would have killed Stephen Hawking and some of the greatest authors and artists simply for being "handicapped" or "old".

What exactly are YOU contributing to society that makes society NEED you? Most likely, you pay very little (if anything) in taxes and have a job a monkey could do.

It comes down to decency, humanity, and morality. We do not kill someone simply because they are a "burden". When we do kill, it is for a direct assault on civilization itself, such as a mass murderer. I know I would never live in a society where some moron gets to choose who lives and dies.

Just think...That over 80's or terminally ill person may have contributed previously in their life with all their efforts, paid taxes, fought wars, never had a criminal record, helped others. So in this case NO!! compulsory euthanasia is not their reward!!

Now then..lifelong parasites who have contributed nothing....while I wouldn't go as far as saying they should be put to death. I think they deserve a place nearer the end of the queue for any care.

What I do think should be compulsory is sterilization for members of families who have a history of contributing nothing positive to society and have a tendency to breed like rats. OOOHH!! Bad back....cant work...no it's no problem in the mating season is it?? , or when there late for bingo....funny how they can run OK then isn't it??

mmmm!!! What a lovely can of worms!!

I respect your right to freedom of speech, and you are entitled to your opinion. I have given you that respect, so I hope you will allow me the same.

Some might call me a "right-on" liberal. I am also disabled and suffering from a long-term illness that may well leave me paralysed and reliant on long-term care.

But I am a human being, just like you. I have the exact same right to life as you do. I did not choose to have this illness (who would?) just as people over 80 do not "choose" to age - it is something we all have in common.

Compulsary euthanasia is no more than ethnic cleansing - as in, these people serve no purpose in life, so let's just kill them off to make way for the fit, young people. But who decides? Where would it stop? Who would regulate it?

You are as susceptible to aging and to serious illness as the rest of the planet - you are truly fortunate if you and your family and friends are in full health.
Yes - to answer your question - we DO need "these people". What you are saying is insulting because what you are suggesting is that because, through no fault of my own, my body doesn't work as it should and therefore, I am worthless?!

I totally agree, what your grandfather suffered was horrendous and if it was his choice to die, then perhaps that should have been heeded to alleviate his suffering. That is VOLUNTARY euthanasia, which is something I do agree with. But to have someone who doesn't know me tell me I'm worth nothing and I should die? I don't think so.

After much thought, and experience of caring for a terminally ill parent who suffered unbearable pain with great courage and humility. I still believe that euthanasia is murder, (unless specifically requested by the terminally ill patient whilst they are of sound mind and have requested this to be carried out in the presence of witnesses on more than 3 occasions.... at least). Even given that those criteria are met, there would still have to be stringent procedures in place in order that this procedure be carried out to the letter without allowing any "unscrupulous" parties into the equation. However, you sir, I would suggest should be the first person to test the equipment, as you are obviously BRAIN DEAD!! Its nice to think that your personal exposure to terminal illness via your grandfather, has caused you to re-evaluate the value of human life........ NOT! I don't know about the compulsory taking the lives of others, you need to get one yourself!! GRRRR!

Compulsory euthanasia should not be implemented upon the terminally ill or the elderly above 80 yrs of age.The elderly
s hould be treated with respect and dignity. The elderly have all ready contributed to society in many ways ad should be treated with dignity. They have paid taxes and contributed to the financial aspect of our government. They have raised their children themselves and in some cases their grandchildren too. They fought in wars for this country. Its time they are treated honorably.
What about children? .They don't financial support our country
lMany of our taxes dollars go to educate, feed and support them. They are not able to get jobs to pump dollars back into our economy. So I guess you think they should be targetted too for euthanasia.too.
The handicapped had rather be healthy it was not a decision they made to be handicapped.Yes, they need or financial support but some handicapped people are gainfully employed and take care of themselves..We have well-bodied people in this country that choose not to work but live off the government system.

As far as your grandfather is concerned I am sorry for your loss.

An advance directive signed by your grandfather or his health care power of attorney would have prevented any measures to have prolonged his death as long as his health care power of attorney
and doctor agreed to follow his wishes.

i wonder what you would say if you make it to eighty. Your children would be "sorry dad, but it's time to go". Considering that many men over eighty fought in world war two and made it possible for you to live in a free world like you do to day, they deserve a bit of respect and have earned a long life, and that is what you are saying really, it is not economic to be old. What exactly have you done to society to deserve/earn a long life. Why don't we save some time and put you out of your misery now.
I hope you don't smoke or drink too much, because I think we should get rid of all smokers. I pay taxes but have never had to use our public hospitals, but plenty of smokers do. In fact why stop with smokers, why not get rid of people who eat too much, don't exercise enough,
If you really mean what you say then you really don't know much about being human. Oh and just in case you think I am against euthanisia, you are wrong. I am a nurse and I have seen some horrendous suffering, and I actually think in some cases it is for the best.

Well, I don't believe that our elders are the ones that are a drain to society. How about the people that are too lazy to work and are on medicaid and social security? I really don't feel that euthanasia is the answer to our elderly. It's almost like we would be playing God. I know several people in their 80s that are still working and living productive lives. My grandfather lived until he was 96. I can understand what you're talking about for the problems at home, I just believe that you're targeting the wrong people. Best of luck to you.

You are young yes?

You are fit, yes?

You have a few years yet to reach the stage where your body may not work as well as it does now!

You may have an accident, become infirm!

You may grow old...

So, go ahead, shoot yourself in the foot... it's what arrogant youth does!

You see sweetheart... what goes around, comes around, and when you make those rules, just remember... (though I know you wont, since cocky youth never looks too far ahead) that, your turn will come as well, when they will knock upon your door!

And surprise, surprise... it'll be faster than you think, because while you're young, time seems to drag with boredom... doesn't it?

Trust me young one, from experience I can tell you, that time is meaningless as it marches faster than you think. And we do not lose our marbles as we age... most of us grow wiser!

So, do enjoy the day... the arrogance, the certainty that you, are right. And when the uniforms and needles, find your door, as they will... because guess what, you'll run like hell and have no place to hide... as you'll be chip and pinned, by all those other arrogant people, who had these ideas before you.

So no bleeting now... no crying wolf too late, should you change your mind:-)

what about the homeless, troubled children, single mothers, abused women and men, a family who cannot earn enough money to survive let alone enjoy life , all these people are also a so called burden on society and many more, shall we kill all these as well, maybe then we'l be left with heartless people like you..... im sure you never got assistance from the state in some form... if you did then you too were this so called burden... what happens when you turn 80, your a healthy elderly person... and someone decides to put you down like a dog. there is more dependant people in society than the elderly and anyway how are they effecting you. when your old and cannot work, who will look after you???????????????? the state, maybe then you will appreciate it. you are a cruel cruel person. you shall get what you deserve....

COMPULSORY euthanasia? That's the single worst idea I've ever heard in my life. It's even more ridiculous than that lady who goes around every now and then claiming that drowning her pets when they get old is the "compassionate" thing to do.

Excuse me, but now I'm going to take a few minutes to graciously thank whatever deity/deities exist up above, for making it so the majority of people (sane people, anyway) don't share your skewed and frightening view of the world.
