The bible says its murder … There is no question of that. So if you believe the Bible you must agree that abortion is murder. I want real answers here. Please don’t give me the tired old crap about it not being the governments place to decide unless you feel the government shouldn’t have laws against other forms of murder either. I also don’t want Christian bashing Democrats to respond with your typical bigoted anti-Christian crap either. I’m looking for people who feel they are Christians who support abortion laws in this country to answer this question. I want to hear how they justify in their own souls being at least complicit if not ultimately responsible for 50 Million abortions (or murders according to the bible) in this country since Row V Wade. I just don’t understand it.

It seems many Christians feel it is OK to kill a child that is not capable of careing for itself based on the answers so far. I think they have forgotton that no human can care forthemselves until at LEAST age 5 so does that mean these "Christians" also feel it is OK for a mother to kill her children under age 5? I think not. I think they are just afraid to carry their logic to its conclusion...

Thou shall not kill, is enough to place abortion in the category of murder. The Bible says God knew us when he knit us in the womb. Therefore, we have a soul from the moment of conception. Purposefully killing that soul is murder.

I'd sure love to see where it says anything in the Bible that refers to a medical procedure developed almost 2000 years after the time of Christ. But your'e not really asking a question, you're just looking for people who agee with you so you can all nod your heads with the "Holier than Thou" self righteousness that the religious right is known for.
But will try to answer your question as I myself am a Catholic who is sick and tired of certain factions of Christianity trying to use the name and message of Jesus to persecute others.
Now let's first ask the question, "Why is abortion legal?" The answer is that is in America, laws do not exist to enforce morality, they exist to protect individual rights. So when someone is convicted of murder, they go to prison not because they have done something morally wrong, but because they have deprived someone of their rights. So you say, "a woman who get an abortion is depriving a baby of it's rights!" Well, according to medical science, that is not true. Yes a blastocyst/zygote/fetus will eventually become a person in all likelyhood if the pregnancy continues. But medical science has determined a time period whereby the fetus cannot survive outside of the mother, and therefore does not yet have individual rights. Now you say " I don't believe that, I think individual rights begin at conception." Well if you consider that there is no "moment" of conception (the merging of two people's DNA takes hours, days sometimes) then you are immediatey in a fuzzy area. Should we make criminals of men who waste semen, or women who allow their ovaries to go unfertilized?
So because we live in a country where laws are based on reason, individual freedom, and the guarantee of "Life Liberty and the Pursuit of Happiness," and not on some people's idea of what God is and what God wants, abortion is legal.
Now I personally would never counsel a person to get an abortion. But I would do so out of my own sense of right and wrong and how to handle difficult situations. But I also do not think my world view should be the law of the land. That's the difference between me and you.
Now allow me to pose a question: Do you support the war in Iraq?

I think it depends on the situation. I don't think that a person should getting knocked up and having an abortion. If the mother is at risk of dying because of the child or the mother was a rape victim then it's different. There is the option of adoption but does anyone realize how many orphans there are out there? People think that it's ok to abort the children of the pets and think that it's different but is it?

I am a Christian and I am not responsible for abortions. I am not the one having the abortion. Maybe showing a little empathy and compassion for differences would help. The bible may say a lot of things but we all need to learn how to show empathy, compassion, and tolerance for the decisions or differences between people. Even though you may not agree with what people do or how they live respecting them for their decision is important. It's not our place to judge people. Every person will be judged when it is there time to go.

The Bible says absolutely nothing about abortion. In fact, it does say that if a man and a pregnant woman quarrell, then fight and the pregnant woman miscarries, it's up to the husband to decide what the punishment is. Nothing about rights of a fetus being more important than a fully grown adult's decision. So, where Xtians came up with abortion being a God related issue is beyond me. The OT's not even friendly about children. God orders Abraham to sacrifice his son. At the last minute he calls it off but I'm sure the son wasn't thrilled. God sends two bears to kill 42 children for teasing a prophet (btw, were the kids incredibly slow or suicidal?)
there are other stories in the OT about children-I think some other answers include them...
I don't think Xtianity has any real ties to the abortion issue

The true problem with the bible as with all scriptures is simply this. They are written in a language so rich and old that there in no language on the planet that can translate them properly.
In fact the church never bothered interesting themselves in the idea of abortion until well after 600 ad. The church believed before that that it was a woman's business and that they need not interfere with the process.
Also the Catholic church used to have hospitals in Europe for unwanted babies. The nurses in these hospitals were called killing nurses. The reason they had this name was because one of there primary duties was to see to it that no unwanted children lived past the age of 1 year. Looking at evidence like this in the churches history goes to show that there are alterer motives behind the churches stance on abortion and birth control.
I be live this reason is the same one that keeps the Gospel of Mary Magdalene and the Gospel of Judas along with other Gospels from taking there proper place in the bible.
As for abortion...I am not god and can not say what is right or wrong but the bible dose say "thou shall not judge lest thee be judged" . I think god was trying to say that he is responsible for making the judgments and we should worry about our own conduct instead of others.

I am a christian. I do not support abortion, but nor to i condemn it. Here's why.

You need to have an open mind to understand where i am coming from, so try to understand. When a child in conceived, i believe that the soul has already entered the body. God doesn't wait for it to be born to give it a soul. That's biblical. So, if the baby is aborted, in a sense you are doing it a favor, sending it back to heaven. The child never has to live on earth, or experience all the hardships that we do. The child's soul is sent right back to be with God forever. If you could choose to live on this planet, or always be with God, what would you chose? I am not saying that abortion is a good thing, but most Christians look at it as if it were the worst thing in the world that one could do. In all reality, it is a good thing. Not saying you should do it, though.

God bless you.

I don’t think I would ever have an abortion, I doubt I'll ever be in that situation. As a Christian I think all life is precious. However, I don’t think I have a right to force someone to think as I do. God gave man free will. I don’t like abortions at all, but because I won’t be there to help raise these children, feed them, cloth them, pay for college, and protect them I don’t think it is my place to make decisions for them. All I can do is live my life the best I can, and try hard to be a good example to everyone, Christian or not. I can give advice when asked, and provide support like a good sister to all, but I cannot make the decision for them, however wrong I think they are. I’ll help to watch out for everyone I can, but ultimately they must be in charge of their own lives. I'm not responsible for any abortions; those who commit the act of abortion are responsible.

They may be a christian in there heart and yet don't know or have had a revelation on what the word of says about abortions. If they do and continue to do what they believe is right then they will be judged by God according to there deed. I GET SO PISSED at the woman that think they can do what ever the hell they want to when it comes to there body. NO YOU DONT none at all have that right in GODS eyes not your own eyes. Woman that believe in abortion because its there own body should of been aborted themseves. Good enough to lay there and get layed by some dude, but not good enough to carry a LIFE no matter what the **** you say or the goverments dumb *** idea of what a life should be. I dont like woman who are so f.u.c.k.i.n.g selfish. The ten commandments tell it the way it is and not what makes the christians happy but for the sake of a healthy christian life. You want to tell me that its your right because its your body just to take a life that God gave in the first place. One word for people like that S.l.u.t.s!!!!!!!

There are plenty of Biblical examples of societies killing their children.

Egypt was the world's greatest civilization at one point in history, yet it fell to its knees when God struck the land with His plagues. These plagues served the purpose of freeing the Children of Israel from the wrath and enslavement of pharoah, but they also achieved something else. God sent the plagues as punishment for Egypt's sins. One of these sins was the murder of innocent children.

When Jesus was born, Herod feared Christ and sought to destroy Him. Herod ordered that all children in Bethlehem and the area surrounding the town be purged of all children who were two years old and younger in order to eliminate Jesus. According to the Bible, Herod was a wicked man and he is associated with the murder of children. Is that why he is considered wicked?

God hates the shedding of innocent blood. Christians should never support abortion. Proverbs 6:16-18

Furthermore, abortion is a selfish act. Women cannot say that it alone affects them because that is not true. The development of a baby's nervous system can be marked by the time that it has a sense of hearing. That means that the child can feel pain. How much more pain does it feel pain during a partial birth abortion if it can feel pain when it is only a few months along in the pregnancy? For shame. Deny it all you want but abortion also affects the life that you are terminating.

Do not sugarcoat such a horrible and morally corrupt action also known as SIN.

I can't help you with this as I don't understand either. I am a Catholic and I feel that abortion is murder. There are always 2 or even 3 victims. The child, the father, the mother. There are so many women suffering from the after effects of abortion. My mother is one of those pushed into it 30 years ago and she has never fully recovered.

First of all, the Bible does NOT say abortion is murder. Abortion is a slightly more recent invention compared to the Bible. If you know otherwise, please post the reference (book, chapter, and verse).

What the Bible DOES say (Exodus 20:13) is "Thou shalt not kill". Some Christians (most notably, the Quakers) view this as prohibtion not only of abortion, but of war and capital punishment as well.

The majority of conserviative U.S. Christians, however, are too weak at the knees (or too much in love with the current "faith-based" government) to object to war and capital punishment, so they prefer to read Exodus 20:13 as "Thou shalt not commit murder". But what exactly is murder? Murder is killing that is not sanctioned by state (war and capital punishment are sanctioned by state and hence are not murder). But, since abortion IS sanctioned by state (in certain cases anyway), legal abortion is not murder, so the Sixth Commandment clearly does not apply...
