Dreams can help you in life, they can warn you, they can make you take notice of what is currently happening. Read Edgar Cayce, the premier knowledge on dreams. You are the best interpreter of your dreams, just tell yourself every night before you go to sleep that you want to remember your dream, and when you wake up, have a paper & pen and write without moving out of position, or try a recorder. Or go over the dream before you get out of bed so that you can remember every detail before you start writing. Do it everyday for a month, you'll be astonished. However if you take medication or suffer from mental illness I would consult with a psychologist. Don't be afraid of dreams that seem more like nightmares, it might be a way of getting you to pay attention.

Dreams occur during the REM phase of sleep. You normally won`t remember most of your dreams, unless you wake in the middle of the REM phase. Freud thinks that forgetting dreams is caused by a process called `suppression`. It is a mental process that transfers dreams from consciousness to unconsciousness. The reason is why our brain does this, is that some memories and desires are too painful for us to be aware of. So, our brain tries to make us unaware of them by making them enter the unconsciousness. That's why you may remember a dream after awaking, but then forget it shortly afterwords.
This is what Freud thinks. What I think is that, dreams are fun and weired. I wish I could remember all my dreams.

Dreams are weird. You don't know what is a memory or just a thought that just occured in the dream. Most people forget their dreams, but important or unique dreams stay in mind.

Whether-or-not you *REMEMBER* your dreams depends upon how you apply each.
The dream-scope I usually TRY to remember involve myself succeeding at a given task.
This helps me to clarify my thoughts so I can convey their ideals.
(The bad-ending dreams I have I am able to file in my "Deleted files"-box, to be permanently removed, commonly within a few minutes.)
Myself being (self-admittedly) A.D.D. at times admit to having lost the remaining part of my mind, as my attention does vary in my explanations. Which reminds me of the vacuum cleaning I need to do at home when I get off work.... OH! - My supper is still in the crock pot, I hope! - I do hope my cat is not making a mess anywhere inside! - My Great Dane is surely baking in the heat of this afternoon!
Which reminds me I need to clean out the Central Air system filter during the weekend........ That will make such a mess, requiring me to vacuum clean!

It doesn't matter. I try to remember my dreams but it's OK if you can't remember them.
