I disagree with a government dictating something so personal. However, I understand the reasons behind it, and it has made a difference in the cities. The major problem is the practice of sex selection. This will lead to even bigger problems in the future when it comes to men finding wives. The other problem is that China is raising a generation of little emperors who have no understanding sibling relationships. In addition their tradition mandates that the children care for the parents and grandparents. That means one child can have 4 grandparents and 2 parents they will have care for, and that many people focusing all their attention on that child as he/she grows into a spoiled brat.

It makes good sense. It's all about the principle of carrying capacity. The Chinese, although they have proven to be crappy stewards of thier environment, are at least aware of the very real problem of overpopulation.

I think it would be great if America had similar limits. Maybe a 2 or even 3 child limit would be more than fair. I'm tired of hearing parents with 4 or 5 kids bitching about how hard it is on them financially. Especially considering that folks with no kids pay the majority of the bill as far as funding education, etc. They don't get tax breaks or tax credits, so they pay for a disproportionally high percentage of public services.

I agree that it is wrong. But I think that it is already causing disaster. It is making it impossible for China to move forward culturally. Because they can only have one child, it causes them to value boys over girls. Therefore some families do all sorts of horrible things when they have a girl. Some families only abandon them, but others go so far as to kill their girls. China's orpanages are filled with unwanted babies, especially girls. This is already a disaster.

I think that if that's China's Policy why not Tie the woman's tubes after that first birth. That way she doens't conceive any children she will later lose or the government doesn't have to kill.
