Oh my! Make sure that she is eating and drinking okay. If she's not, take her to the vet immediately! If she has swallowed the tampons, it may be stuck in her intestines/bowels and may require surgery. If she's not able to pass the obstruction, she will die. Next, keep the bathroom door closed at all times, especially when you leave to prevent this problem. You could also try sprinkling pepper in the trash can. Although, I had a dog that always went through the trash and pepper didn't deter her!

Dogs will eat stuff like that. But the string on the tampon could cause problems for the dog internally. I seriously doubt that a tampon will digest in a dogs stomach. I found the best thing to do is keep the bathroom door shut.
My dogs like to eat used kleenex. Hell, they just like kleenex in general, and paper towels, and napkins. It's the bulk of the cotton and the string in the tampon that would cause harm.
So, either keep the door shut, or flush the tampons, or, put a lock on the garbage cans. You probably can't train a dog not to eat them, just like you can't keep it out of the kitty litter box.

Make for sure the door is closed to the bathroom or put the trash in a closet so she cannot get to it. It's not good for any animal to eat inedibles of any kind. If she still looks poorly call the vet and get them to take a look at her! You need to be more responsible about keeping the trash out of her way..she's only an animal who knows no better. There's a dog in our neighborhood who goes into people's trash looking for diapers with poop in them. Animals don't know any better!

First, take that dog to the vet for some x-rays to make sure it is not creating any blockages.
Second, buy a different type of garbage can.
Third, start teaching the dog that it is not allowed in the bathroom. It can learn.
Fourth, whenever you are in doubt call the vet. They won't mind, it's what they do.

She is probably fine. But keep an eye on her. She might need a vet visit.
Just a little advise: put the trash can up high before you leave. I keep my trash can up on top of the cabinet.
There are other hazards a dog could get from the bathroom trash. Like used razor blades. Best to be preventive and put the trash can up than to return home and find your little one hurt.

You figure out what you are going to tell the Vet yet? while you are sitting in the Vet's office have you figured out how to break this bad habit that your mother is the cause of? the dog is acting naturally to in-bred stimuli, you know! You could put the Pit out of doors for 2-3 weeks, wash out the trashcan, even get one with a lid and apply a toddler safety clamp when you go out, change the doorknob to a hard to reach height, train your parent unit to empty the trashcan daily especially before leaving the house!

A dog should not have access to the garbage to do this. When a tampon is wet it expands. If your dog ate a whole tampon call your vet. It would be like you eating a diaper and trying to digest it. The tampon expands and can stop food from flowing through the digestive system.

Throw your tampons in some other garbage can!
Also, don't let the dog go in the bathroom. Teach your dog not to eat garbage. Thats lack on your part.

dogs do that. This isnt the first time I have seen that, and if her behavior is different I would call a vet about it. In the future, get trash cans with a lid or keep them up higher so the dog cant get to it.

Take your dog to the vet IMMEDIATELY. Tampons can be very poisonous to dogs! The reason why your dog is eating them is the smell. I know it sounds gross, but dogs live by their noses. If they find something smelly, like a dead worm, the first reaction is to roll in it, then taste or eat it. Your dog is just following her natural instincts and that can get her in trouble.
