The Quran calls them "People of the Book", i.e., those who received Divine scriptures before Muhammad (P). Muslims are told to treat them with respect and justice and do not fight with them unless they initiate hostilities or ridicule their faith. The Muslims ultimate hope is that they all will join them in worshipping one God and submit to His will.
"Say (O Muhammad): O people of the Book (Jews and Christians) come to an agreement between us and you, that we shall worship none but Allah, and that we shall take no partners with Him, and none of us shall take others for Lords beside Allah. And if they turn away, then say: Bear witness that we are those who have surrendered (unto Him)." (Quran 3:64)
What about Hindus, Bahai, Buddhists and members of other religions?
They should also be treated with love, respect, and understanding to make them recipients of Invitations to Islam.

Thanks for pointing this out. Many people think that all muslims are evil and hatefull of other religions based only on the actions of a few Islamic extremeists.

I count people of all faiths as friends. Each is a unique person. They all have something to offer society. I think Muslims in general are shown in a bad light these days based on the most extreme among them. We should not hate a religion or a race for any reason. However, I do believe that more Muslims need speak out loudly against the atrocities being committed and justified in the name of Islam. If for no other reason than to remind the world that it is the fanatics who are dangerous, and decent people do not tolerate or agree with such injustice.

Personally I divide people into two groups : believers and non believers.
We moslems are told to treat everyone with love, respect, and understanding in our, except that we're strict on faith part. Faith part means that we worship nothing but Allah and we witness that Muhammad is Allah's messenger.
Islamic Law equally protect the rights of believer and non believer in court. However, there is a different term on 'tax'. While moslems have to pay zakat, non believers have to pay jizyah. Both of it have equal value of 2.5 % relative to their belongings.
So basically, moslems are fighting only when non believer initate hostility or ridicule their faith.
History shows us that in Madina, prophet Muhammad pbuh, along with moslem, live along Jews and Christians in harmony, until the Jews initiate rebellion against the moslems along other arab tribes. As a consequences, the Jews were banished from Madina.

What Don says actually makes no sense whatsoever. It is the case of lack of knowledge upon a matter.
Takfeer simply means to apply kufr upon someone. Kufr means rejection/ disbelief. And Hindus, Budhists and Jews and Christians are all disbelievers as they reject Islaam. This does not reflect the treatment of them.
" O ye who believe! stand out firmly for Allah, as witnesses to fair dealing, and let not the hatred of others to you make you swerve to wrong and depart from justice. Be just: that is next to piety: and fear Allah. For Allah is well-acquainted with all that ye do."
(5:8)
This explains the treatment of the Non-Muslims:

See, therin lies the rub. The Koran tells Muslims to handle others with appreciate and dignity. Many, many people instead concentration on the 'except' area and then run wild with that. in basic terms as many radicalized Christians as quickly as concentrated on the areas of the Bible that led to violence and torture, radicalized Islamics are doing that as we talk. Islam is in this is dark a protracted time - and worse. The Inquisition did no longer have get right of entry to to nuclear weapons, chemical weapons, nor airplanes. much less Western Media to unfold their hate. Orion

EXACTLY like Muslims want to be treated...with Love, with COMPASSION, and with DIGNITY. This is the way ALL people should be treated, NO MORE and NO LESS. After all we all worship the SAME God.
True "Christians" and true "Muslims" as well as all other "TRUE" believers/worshipers of all faiths will always get along with each other. It's the "NOT TRUE" believers/worshipers of all faiths who cause all the problems between us "true" believers.
The "Zealots" with their unhealthy 'WANT TO BE GOD' agendas are 'TRULY' 'the enemy' and 'Infidels' of all that is Godly period.

As the humans they are. Bin Laden isn't even close to being a religious man. He is just using it to brainwash others to murder people in the name of Allah.

any true Christian or Hebrew will except Islam because it is not in conflict with the truth of any of the prophets namely Moses and Jesus and only makes their faith greater in God.
