How are feminists viewed by muslims? I ask because a lot of Christians do not support feminism. I wanted to know the Islamic opinion.

Feminism is arrogance actually which can't be supported by Qur'an. Don't you know that men are not superior to women and women are not superior to men.
Feminists movements are driven by women who believe they are better than men. How this could be right? You tell me.

The biggest reason men resist change is because of fear. From what I read Islamic feminist women are striding for small changes that build up their rights, and they get the biggest opposition not at home but from the big "religious" leaders or groups that truly want to keep a deathhold grip on the throats of all muslims. Of course, there are those religious leaders who are truly Islamic and understand that Islam is about respect, fairness, and health and is also for women having rights and protections. As far as the veiling, that in more fair countries it is a personal thing with most women and I know that it has become a more for most middle eastern countries, it doesn't have too much to do with their rights afforded under the law.

The term "Islamic Feminists" is as much an oxymoron as "Mormon Feminists" or "Southern Baptist Feminists" From what I have read those of the more radical Muslim persuasion are definitely not feminists. Many groups do not allow women to be educated, and of course they hide behind veils and are segregated. When a female goes to a Dr. her husband or brother has to go with her; I saw this in Oakland, Ca. Funny how any of the more extreme religious folk are more alike in some ways than they are different...actually, its sad. Can't we just ALL get along, folks, and give everyone equal rights? And when (aside from permitting crimes) will we stop judging and limiting what other people do, all based on the supposed word of God? Give the old world a break!

First Women need to have equal rights to come to an equilibrium with men in Islamic nations, only then they can think of tipping the scale to the other extreme by being feminists.

The traditional Muslim position is that women are the "weaker vessil" because Eve gave Adam the apple. They believe that women are inferior to males and should basically shut up and obey.
In fact, do a search on "female circumcision" on the web. You won't believe what this brutle practice, going on today on a big scale, is really about.
