What do you rely on to make the important decisions in life...? Bible, inward witness, circumstances, common sense, counsel... What is meant by "leading"- what does it feel like, where does it occur (some say in the belly), is it a voice, a feeling...? Does God lead in the small affairs of life...? How can you distinguish it isn't your own feeling, or even a "wrong" spirit? What about circumstances- is that controlled by God or Satan or both (how do you tell who is doing it...)? Serious answers only please...

I study the bible everyday. I pray several times a day. The spirit talks to me in a soft voice. I can Easily ignore it. But then when things go wrong I remember that voice tried to warn me. I always compare the voice to the bible. They must agree. If it is something important I will pray a silent pray and lay out a fleece. Sometimes it takes a long time to get an answer. One time it took almost a year.

I believe it can be any combination of these ideas. My opinion is that as long as what you got agrees with what you know of the laws of nature and agrees with your own "inner witness" as you put it, then you can say it's led by God.
So using any knowledge you clean from the outside world and running it through your inner check and purposefully trying to exclude selfish, prideful or other influences you are truly being led.
God bless you and keep you.

Unless you are born again God' Spirit is not in you. You must accept Jesus as Savior. The Holy Spirit, teaches, guides, and directs you. He takes what Jesus says and shows you things to come.
