My father's side of the family is part of Peyotism and on my mother's side they are mostly Catholics. I am one of the only atheists in my family and I'm always being pressured to become Catholic or join the Peyote Religion. Yet, I believe in neither of their ways because I don't believe in a god. I believe that evolution took place therefore, no god. I was once involved in Peyotism and everyone was crazy about having visions so there would be this long ritual and I just didn't like it. I didn't believe in the visions because the hallucinogenic drug, peyote, caused them. I chose to be an atheist because it concurs with all of my beliefs. Also, no one really knows what religion is right but I think that Atheists and Agnostics are the closest because there is proof for what they believe in.

I don't know of anyone who chose their religion based on peer pressure. Where did you get that? No matter what church you decide to go to (or don't go to) you can always find friends who agree with your beliefs; sooner or later you quit hanging out with those people who believe different than you because of a lack of common ground (so how can they pressure you?).
I have acquaintances of many different religions (and a few atheists too!), but they do not seem to have much influence on my Christian beliefs one way or the other.
I suppose that family has a big impact when you are young, but once you become an adult, you usually chose your own belief system based on what seems to make sense to you. I agree that many people assume that the belief system that they grew up in is the one that makes sense to them because they probably never had any other belief system explained to them, and they were too lazy to do their own research.
