ok im going to say this becuase my mom is a vet....truly..she is....keep them air conditioned at all hot times....if you can't have them inside at all times, try squrting them with the water hose or taking htem to a near-by pond or lake...dogs do not know when they are too hot, so you will have to know for them....if they start panting way to hard and too much, give them water...pull up the skin on their neck and let go...if the skin doesn't go down on about a second, they are probably dehidrated....i know that for sure...i have seen way to many dogs die from heat stroked and dehidration, so just be careful and check on them on a regular basis....trust me on this..if they get too hot, bring them to a vet right away.never leave them in a car with no ACl...what i haev said is all true, so please be very careful and im not lying....take care....kelsey

A few ideas are:
Make sure that hey have plenty of Shade in your yard. Tree's or unmbrellas if you have to. It's just cruel to leave them out there without shad (not saying you are though)
Make sure that they have fresh Water in bowls that they can easily acces, and make sure to keep it in the shade so that it stays cool, instead of heating up or evaporating.
If your outside watering your plants before heading off to work, get one of those how attachments that you can change to "Mist" and "soaker" and "jet". Before you go, give the dogs a light misting, or if it's gonna be really hot, gove them a good soak.
Leaving a Kiddie Pool (not inflatible, there claws can puncture it and it can be dangerous for them) with water, in the shade, and doggie toys in it (ones that float) is nice, the toys give them a reason to get in the water and encourage them to play around and get wet.
Getting them groomed once a month in the summer is nice too. They need to keep the fur FAIRLY short, and they need to get rid of the underfur coat that they build up during the winter. Brushing them everyday helps keep there under coat to a minumum too. I have to say though, that gettin gthem groomed at PetSmart is a bad idea. They drugged my dog, and they didn't do an even job on her fur, it looked like they had taken egg beaters too her. It wasn't pretty.
I hope these tips will help you out. Try to enjoy your summer heat, I hope it isn't too bad for you. Enjoy~

Make sure their in an area with lots of shade. Refresh their water on a regular basis. Putting ice in the water would be good. My dogs love that.
A little wading pool would be good too. Also, depending on the area I guess, you could bring out an oscillating fan to use during those days with no breeze.

If your dog has all this and gets too hot, they will use it.

Depending on where you live, and if you must keep them outdoors, I would suggest a plastic kiddie pool (not a inflatable pool, cuz they can get punctured very easily from the dogs' nails or teeth) for them to sit in. Make sure it's in a shady place, like under a tree. Give them lots of ice in their water dishes.
However, if you have a garage, bring them in there if you can, the concrete floor is very cool for them to lay on and will be in the shade. If you do move them into the garage, place a fan next them, but out of reach for them to knock it over or chew on it.
Also, I just got a tip from my mom, she used to keep old, empty, 3-liter plastic soda bottles, filled them with water and put them in the freezer. Once the water was frozen, she took the bottles out and placed them in our dog's house. He just loved to lie right on top of them to keep cool!

Try going to PetSmart or PetCo and buying an inexpensive cooling collar. It's like a bandana that you soak in water to put around their neck. They have some higher-tech ones out there if you search google, but be forewarned that they're pretty pricey. Work wonders, though. I'll abstain from repeating the above advice.

Dogs cool themselves down, that is why they pant all the time with their tongues hanging out because they can't sweat, like we do. The best way to keep your dog cool is provide lots of fresh water at all times, because dogs get really thirsty when its hot, because of the fact that their bodies use the water to cool them down from inside. You could also leave them in the house if you want to.

Hope this helps!

Get the little $6 childrens wading pool..keep it filled and change water when it gets hot..put it where there is usually shade...they will love ti!
My dogs just lived in their pool when I lived where is was so hot...they stayed the cleanest dogs around , too!

A sprinkler set to run low will help to cool the yard, too.

Go to Walmart and buy one of those small kiddie pools for like $10 and fill it each day with cold water. They will totally love the water and playing in it will keep them really cool on these hot summer days! My Poms have one but they are inside dogs but they LOVE their little pool!

Bring them inside or find them a new home where they will be able to come in the house. And in the mean time, read up on the symptoms of heat stroke in dogs. Depending on size, breed and coat length/thickness, a dog can get heat stroke and die within a very short time.

I have the same problem. I took a large box fan and placed it outside and in front of the fan I layed a waterhose in front of it. I closed off the end of the waterhose and poked about 40 little holes in the hose to create a misty spray that they LOVE, they sit in front of it all day long. It doesnt really get them that wet but it keeps them cooler

You know, they do make doggy popsicles. And ice cream. That are good for the dogs. Leave a fan in the garage for them. And leave them cold water. And you can get them wet if they like water.
