Often Microsoft will replace a damaged CD if you send them the original. You have to pay shipping both directions. Call the support number and they can advise you on the current policy. They will not supply a new serial number with the CD you will have to use your original and they will probably ask for the number before they do anything.

Hey, dude...if you are a real customer then I can help.
If you are a freak who wants a free ride on Mr Gates, then exit this message.

Firstly, did your PC come already XP installed, and if so, did the vendor provide a series of 'recovery disks' for the programs they had previously installed? If not, get on their case.
If the situation is that you are a registered customer with the CD you bought, then you really don't have a problem.

Basically, you registered at the beginning, therefore all you need to do is call your local Microsoft Helpdesk, and they will do 1 of two things.

1: Ship a new CD to you ......or
2: They will go through a registration process (pain in the ***) and get you back online.
If it is option 2 then you should be able to create a 'RECOVERY CD' - something that many folks don't know about when they buy a PC from a vendor.

My opinion is that before the average person is allowed to buy this type of equipment for home use - there should be a legislation by the Government, whereby
the VENDOR needs to verify the BUYER as to be 'Certified as Computer Literate.'
But - sh*t! If that happened, my job in part-time IT would be out the window, so...keep on buying ya freaks!

Dang magazines dont help - they confuse the EU even more!
