I have never done the training pad i have always done crate?
I have a13 yr old chihuahua that i got a couple of months ago and at night she uses the bathroom. I have tried everything from waking her up every 15 min gradually everyday later, trust me i have tried everything and this is kind of my last resort. she don't know how to wake me up. anyway if i was to put a puppy training pad down will this attract my other dog, who is extremely housebroken, to use this pad and then want to use in the house. and please no replys on i should get rid of her it was my parents dog and they passed away. so she is staying.

I tried crating her at night but she literally tears her nails off. I woke up one morning and the cage was covered in blood.

Allrighty, so apparently my crating idea DEFINETLY won't work ^ ^ That sounds really aweful =( I'm pretty sure that the other dog will continue to follwo it's training as long as you continue to let it out on a regular basis. It helps if you put he dog out RIGHT before you go to bed, and don't let her back in until she has done her business. The Training pad shouldn't attract your oth dog, and it MAY not work on the new dog either. They're really made specifically for puppies. It is a good idea to try though. Another thing I recomend is a good soild 20 minutes of playing with the dog, or taking it for a walk right before you go to bed. Then imediatley letting er out again in the morning. This should keep her from needing to pee at night. I hope that helped at least a little bit. If you need more information, I've gone throgh a great deal of dogs, I'd be happy to helpyou, e-mail me at happiest_phantom@yahoo.com if you have any other questions you'd like to ask me ^ ^

This is my experience with the pads which may or may not dictate what will work well for you,
When My extrememly housebroken dog had to start taking steroids, it increased the amount of times she had to urinate. I layed a puppy pad down and she had no idea what to do with it.... in her mind, the only appropriate place to urinate is outside.
I would have had to teach her to use the pad, which I decided against, she actually does wake me up.
This is a trail and error with the opportunity for a few different outcomes, the Chihuahua may not even go on the pad unless it has been trained to do so. Once you train the CHI to go on the pad, the other dog may become attracted to urinate where the CHI does.
I would put a pad down during the day while you are there to watch and see if the CHI and your other dog is attracted to the pad.
IF not you can train the CHI to use the pad. During the day you can monitor thier training.
YOu may have to separate them, or you may be able to train your older dog to go outside anyways and the CHihuahua to go on the pad.
DO you know about "simple solution" or other products to get the urine stain and smell out?
Sorry for your loss, good luck with your problem.

She is probably overwhelmed by the new house.
Just put her in a small area in the kitchen or in the bathroom and put the puppy pad in there, away from her food and water. She will start using the pad during the night.
If you put the pad out, then the other dog MIGHT or might not use the pad but the little doggy may not use the pad at all. So when you use the pad on the little doggie, just make sure that she is in her own small area so she knows to use it.

Try the pads. Your other dog is far too used to going outdoors. I did this with a 3 year old dog and a new puppy that did not like her crate at all. I don't think the puppy pads should effect the other dog.

Hi, I understand that you are looking for some advice or resources to help fully train your dog or fix behavior problems. If a professional dog trainer is not an option at this time, or if you want to trt training your dog on your own (a great way to bond), I'd suggest you https://bitly.im/aL14I
A friend recommened it to me a few years ago, and I was amazed how quickly it worked, which is why I recommend it to others. The dog training academy also has as an excellent home training course.

At 13, she is probably a little incontinent. It would be very hard for her to hold it all night. Put her in a small room like a bathroom at night, where there is no carpet and leave her in there with a puppy pad. Take the pad up in the daytime. It should not affect the other dog if he is not in the same room with her.
So sorry for the loss of your parents and thanks for taking the chi in and not having her put down.
Instead of the regular puppy pads, try using a baby crib pad. I use them for my chi puppies. They are washable and can be used over and over.

Training pads are originally intended for puppies.
No the other dog will not use the pads. I am in the same situation, but my older dog was raised with the pads. You can try them and see. Won't hurt. Also sounds she is trying to mark her territory. Good Luck. Sorry for your loss.

I would seperate the dogs at night and put the one with the potty trobule in another room with the pad. That way you will not loose the housebreaking on your pet.
Chis are hard to housebreak and many people never get it completely done. I know a breeder who house breaks them to the piddle pads and calls that good enough.

You could try using a litter box like for cats, dogs can get used to it as well. As long as you praise the other dog when he goes to the toilet outside he should stay housebroken.
