Its one of the most abusive things people do in the summer. We never hear how many die each year because of this barbaric practice.

Because they are stupid and selfish. It can get up to 140 degrees or so in a car, even when it's not too hot outside for you. A dog can't sweat, so heatstroke is a very real danger for him. "I was only gone five minutes" is not an excuse for locking a dog in the oven you call a car. I think people who do this ought to have to spend an hour locked in a car without water to get an idea as to what a dog experiences when some slob does this to him. People who lock their dogs in cars should lose the dog. Period.

Because some people are idiots and do not care for the animals. If you see a dog in a car with windows up, watch it for 30 minutes if you can to see if the owners come back out quickly and if they don't, report it to the police. I know someone who knocked a window out of a car because the dog was almost dead from the heat. The owners called the police on the good samaritan but they got the ticket, not the one who broke the window. The dog lived.
Some idiots do the same thing with their kids!

People are so ignorant...and indifferent. These days everybody is in such a hurry or a rush to get somewhere or do something, so if their dog has to suffer because they need to go grocery shopping, they just don't care. It drives me insane. If people would just stop and think about the responsibility they have towards an animal that depends completely on them for survival, maybe they would think to take the dog home and go grocery shopping later.

Either they're ignorant to the dangers and suffering or they just don't care enough for their dog.
Some people even do it to their children. Out of the dog topic, but I've heard a supermarket DJ paging a car owner to get a small child out of a car parked under the hot sun! The person was repeatly paged for 15-20mins until finally the DJ announced that they will be breaking the windows to get the child out. I just don't get it, the person's pride is worth more than his/her child.

I don't know. I just think that if you are going to go shopping then leave the dog home. I mean why take a dog somewhere where it is not welcome. It probably makes the dogs hate car rides. Knowing that they are probably going to be locked up in it. I think those people need to think more about what they are doing!

Because you have to have a license to drive a car, but any old ignorant git can get a dog.

Most stores don't allow people to bring their pets in unless you are blind or need some kind of help. If we keep our pets in our car we roll down all the windows.

Because they want to be arrested for their ignorance. They seem to "care" so much for the animal by taking it with them but then leave it in the car to bake ! Stupidity !

because they probably have to go buy somehting they need and dogs are not allowed in there
we went to a restarunt and we had to leave our dog in the car..
but we checked up on her every so often
to let her know we are there
