She jumps around and flips and meows. I'm worried that she will hurt herself.

A lot of cats freak out when they first get a collar put on them. My cat first hated the collar but now she doesn't mind it at all but my mom's cats never got used to the collar. If she does get used to a collar then you should make sure it is a safety collar, becuz if it isn't then she could get caught on something and choke. But anyhoo...when you put the collar on her wrap her in a blanket or something and hold her so she won't freak out but she will also get used to it. But if you plan to let your cat outside you should also get her micro chipped in case the collar comes off and when she is found she can be tracked back to you...

First, make sure the collar is not too tight. You should be able to get 2 fingers between her and the collar. You will need to check weekly to make any adjustments to the collar until she is done growing. Assuming that the collar fits properly, your kitten will get used to her "necklace". I'm sure she's twisting and walking funny trying to get it off. It's just something new for her. She is not used to the feeling of having something round her neck. Leave it on all of the time. Give her a few days with her new collar and she will be fine.

You should, because without it she might get lost and then nobody will know who she belongs to. But you also shouldn't force her. You might want to start by finding out what she does and doesn't like about the collar and change the bad things into good things or remove them. You could also give her a treat everytime she puts it on whithout freaking out. It's your own kitten, you should decide about what to do.

How does she freak out??
What does your kitten like; food, a certain toys, to be brushed?? Whatever it is that's her favorite thing, you need to make sure you reward her with it for allowing the collar to stay on. Make sure the collar fits properly and doesn't have anything dangling from it (for now). Put it on her (as quickly as possible, or when she's sleeping, which is better), and then reward her for *not* freaking out by playing with her, giving her treats, brushing her.... whatever she likes. Leave it on as long as she's ignoring it. She'll get used to it eventually. All 3 of my cats wear collars, and my youngest, who was a kitten when he came to me (the others were adults) didn't like his collar at first either. But now he ignores it, and the older kitties never even flinched when I put theirs on them.

Sure there is! But fist you have to measure the kitties neck and write the length down and then find a collar that fits that size. Maybe the collar is too small.

Most cats will tend to freak out when anything is placed around them.

Cats like freedom. Your cat must learn to wear it... so I suggest making her wear it for 10-15 minutes at a time... while inside.
After that time has passed take it off for about 5... then put it back on for 10-15 minutes.

That's how I trained my cat. He doesn't enjoy it... but he tolerates it.

Stop taking it off and she'll get used to it. Also make sure it's not too tight!!! You might be choking her. Always make sure you can fit two of your fingers between the collar and her neck.

Let her freak. It could mean life and death for her in the future if she doesn't learn to wear the collar.

No, she'll never like it.

But she will get used to it, if you just leave it on the next time you put it on. And I can tell you from personal experience, that it's entirely worth whatever discomfort she's feeling, to have her safely labeled!

Kitties love catnip ( or catmint) so why don't you put some drops of catnip oil on his collar and it will be more pleasant to wear it? I think you can buy on petshop this kind of oil.
