and gas prices are going up all over the world because our troops are in the countries that supply all the oil. and our president wants to keep our troops there, and the longer they are there the higher the prices keep going.
if our troops were to leave i'm sure that once he's out of office things will get cheaper.
and for those who say that the gas is too expensive, then how come oil companies in the US are reporting record deals and their CEO's are making 7 figure salaries!

I like the farenheit 911 thing.... half of that movie has already been proven wrong yet people still use it as a reference when the majority of the facts in that movie were fabricated. If you want to know if the president has anything to do with the gas prices yes he does. His foreign policy dictates what other countries will do with their resources. He has taken a hard line stance on iran and they are controlling a large portion of the oil market. Russia as well. They along with the opec nations will control the price and gouge all they want. Oil company execs do the same, they are the ones who are conspiring. If bush bombed iran and venezuela back to the stone age and set up US puppet governements there then we could have cheap gas like the 38 cents a gallon in venezuela. But the liberals would crucify him if he did that and he is going to be political about it. Just like immigration. So does he control or somehow benefit from high gas prices? No, but does he have influence over them? Some. But at this point, not enough to make a difference because its too late. No matter who gets voted in next, they will drop.

No. After accounting for inflation, gas prices are lower that during the (Carter Administration) gas prices. This with record high usages.
If earnings are so outrageous for oil companies, my advice is: if you can't beat them, join them. Buy oil stocks. If profits for oil companies are so out of line, you and every other American should be buying oil stocks and getting rich. When the .com boom hit, creating millionaires out of garage businesses overnight, I didn't see you complaining about Microsoft's or Intel's outrageous profits, or crying conspiracy for Clinton or Gore (the self proclaimed inventor of the internet). The richest man in the world never sold an ounce of oil, and you're complaining about Oil CEOs?
The truth is, the oil companies are not as profitiable as you'd like to pretend, which is why Wall street is not scooping up oil stocks. (What oil stock I own has in fact dropped). CEO's are overpaid in every industry (including certain members of the J. Kerry family). Oil prices have fluctuated whether or not there is a particular war anywhere (No war during the Carter administration gas shortage). Democrat and Republican administrations have been hit by this in equal measure. The Democratic leadership supported the war in the first place, and still funds it, so if there is a conspiracy, you better include them.
Seriously, you sound like a 20-something or younger that hasn't bothered to look past the rhetoric, understand history, or examine facts in an objective light.

No. The companies are creating a monopoly so there relaly isnt too much the president himself can do except keep trying to approve new taxes on the oil companies and hope congress will approve them. The president is the the say all end all man everyone thinks. If you take any government class you will learn congress is the actual ultimate decision maker.

Yes. It's leglaized bribery, and it's called campaign finance. All you have to do is follow the money. The energy companies are the largest $$ contibutors to the Bush & Cheney campaign. Now, let's see if we can guess what companies have become even richer becuase of the Iraq war?
The problem is that many Democrats on the payroll of the oil companies too, so we don't get any real change.

The value of the dollar has gone down because of the gigantic deficits, that means the US pays more dollars for what it buys internationally, and most of what it buys internationally is OIL. The cost of the Iraq War and giving tax breaks to billionaires has put the country a trillion dollars in debt and that has lowered the value of the dollar. Too bad, but thats what the people voted for. Oh excuse me I mean thats what the Republicans on the Supreme Court voted for.

Oil costs $75 a barrel. You think the president is in the commodity markets buying oil to drive the price up?
Think about this next time you fill up your SUV.

I dunno-does he benefit from the profits??!!!
Last time i knew, PROFIT meant left over after all expenses were paid..seems the oil companies have an awful lot left over!!!
If he could be re-elected, do you think the prices would be this high??? Something to consider....
