Oh, still wondering about the world's busiest airport, O'Hare International, and its ORD code? Well once upon a time, before the editor and publisher of the Chicago Tribune, Colonel Robert McCormick suggested a name change as tribute to pilot Lt. Cmdr. Edward "Butch" O'Hare, United States Navy, there was an airstrip well to the northwest of Chicago with a quaint, peaceful name—Orchard Field. (ORcharD)

It is actually a shortening of 'Orchard' in the airport's original name Orchard Place Airport, the name it went by when it was built as a takeoff strip for military planes built at a nearby factory during WW2.

I do not know, but O'Hare was military carrier pilot who was killed in WWII during the battle of the Coral Sea. His carrier the USS Lexington was destroyed by the Japanese. When you think things are bad in the world today, read up on our battles of the past and you will see that what is happening today is trivial. 5000 men lost on the Normanday beaches in the first ten hours of D-day. 100,000 in 30 days during the battle of the Bulge where the Germans also lost over a 100,000. This was serious stuff, be glad you missed it all.
