I guess my point is, why does no one try to ban religion in prisons, just school?

Rangedog....
exactly, they are both run by the state. I'm not asking to ban them form prison, but you at least get my point. Why one state facility can ban it and another doesn't.

It's funny someone wrote, you have to keep your eyes on teacher instead of a fictional book. I was forced to read Romeo and Juliet AMONGST OTHER FICTIONAL WORKS. Lol.

With both having a large amount of government funding, you have a point in question. I'm going to bookmark you and read the responses when I get back from work.
But wow, I hope Bibles are not removed from pens.

Of course they can have a certain amount of personal belongings and personal time and maybe a Bible falls in that category.

No one says they can't. I mean if a child brought a Bible for their D.E.A.R. (drop everything and read) time to my public school classroom....I wouldn't object. However, I wouldn't use this book as a tool in my class. I think in an open discussion of many religious books can and does take place on the high school and definitely college level. Children in elementary school and even middle school do not possess the reading skills, or thinking skills to tackle such a project. They simply do not have the ability to see outside of black and white (right and wrong) to understand the complexities of similarities and differences using such difficult reading material. Children cannot synthesize and analyze material that is beyond their scope and experience. Therefore, though I would not ban the Bible....I wouldn't choose it as the best tool to use in my classroom. Remember in a public school we respect the freedom of religion and that is our job as public educators. I cannot introduce the Bible without introducing all the other religious books that hold the same claim as belonging to God.

Because in Prison the Bible is used as a crutch to prove you are rehabilitated. In School people seem to think that learning math and language skills are more importnant then learning about how 1 entity magically created the universe. In both cases it's brainwashing.

In school you have to pay attention to the teacher instead of keeping your eyes in a fictional book. In prison you don't have to.

Because they live in prison. The Bible has no place in schools. What is with you Christians that you need to have everyone believe in this silly myth? Some of us have grown past this elementary school of religion.

They can read a bible if they want, THEY CAN BRING IT WITH THEM!!!!!

The state doesn't force the bible on prisoners and it shouldn't on schoolchildren. If they want to read the bible they have all weekend, all morning and all night to do so.. Why is it so important that they read it during school hours? And if they want to, they can bring one and whip it out on their breaks or at lunch.

That's what peopl always seem to forget.

Children can and do bring private reading material to public school, including the Bible, to read to themselves during their free reading time at those schools that have not had to dispense with free reading time (among other things) due to the No Child Left Behind Act. (And yes, a lot of public schools have had to give up a lot of things like recess and free reading time and library time because of that act.)

If a prisoner wants to read the bible, where else can they go to read it except where they live? Nowhere.

If a child wants to read the bible, where else can they go except to a public school to read it? Home, Sunday school, vacation bible school, a neighbor's house, church services, public library, private school, a friend's house, on the internet, a book store, after school clubs and groups, etc.

Wow.. Can you say apples and oranges? In prison they CHOOSE to read the bible. In school it would be counterproductive to FORCE the bible upon them. That is what you religious a$$holes are for.

because, anything that has do do with religion is suppost to be seperate from school because the district is afraid of teachers advertising any religion. and they have the right to read any religous teachings in prison. it is just the way it is.
