Because there are a lot of angry people around who don't have a clue as far as a sense of fair play. They can't take their frustrations out at work, or they would lose their jobs. They can't take it out on the streets, because they would be arrested, and now they cannot even take their frustrations out at home, because of the domestic abuse laws. So who is left? Us faceless people on the internet. It gives them the illusion that we're not real people behind the keyboard.
Just remember something every time you listen to any insulting comment: It is more about them, than it is about you, most especially if they don't know you.
