They do not seem to be having any ill effects. May be this is just proof that beagles really will eat anything. :-)

It's not going to hurt them. They just say don't eat it to remind stupid people that it's not food.

Perhaps move your litterbox into a room and get a pet gate that has a small door big enough for cats. Or, if your dog is small and that won't work, try getting a litterbox with a top on it and keep it away from where the dog usually is or make an area where it will be where your dog isn't allowed. If anything the best thing is to constantly check and clean your litterbox. There's also a supplement I've seen at pet stores that claims to stop stool eating, I'm assuming it's just the vitamins and minerals that your dog feels the need for and fills with the poop. And some just like it because they are gross. Continue to tell her NO in a calm firm voice, and teach her the drop it command.

Silica Gel Packets

PET HEALTH ALERT: COMMON HOUSEHOLD HAZARDS

You know not to eat those paper or plastic packets often found in shoe boxes, bottles of medication and vitamins and some food items - but your pet doesn't. Used to absorb moisture, the packets contain silica gel, which is considered chemically and biologically inert upon ingestion.

However, reports Jill A. Richardson, DVM, of the ASPCA Animal Poison Control Center (APCC), gastrointestinal upset has been seen in dogs and cats who have accidentally eaten one of these packets. Symptoms include nausea, vomiting and lack of appetite.

There can be additional harmful effects, particularly if the packet was used for medication. "Silica acts as a dessicant and can absorb qualities of a medicine when it's in a medicine bottle," explains Richardson. "So, for example, if your dog ate a silica gel pack that came out of your heart medication, the silica could absorb the qualities of the heart medication and cause similar adverse effects." Companion animal caretakers should be extra careful to keep these packets out of their pet's reach.

In addition to offering information online at http://www.aspca.org/site/PageServer?pagename=pro_apcc&JServSessionIdr004=ddc4zpm7v1.app28b the APCC also runs an emergency hotline - 1-888-4-ANI-HELP - that provides round-the-clock telephone assistance.

They will get constipation because the silca gell absorbs all of the water in their digestive tract. Give them lots of water for the next few days. This should help keep their systems lubicated and hydrated.

I would also call the vet, but they will probably recommend that you observe them to make sure they are OK. If it was a "little packet" and they ate just a little, then you're probably OK, but make the call just to be safe.

Good luck. Based on what you've said, I think they're going to be fine.

I would contact your vet and keep them well hydrated, the gel will absorb alot of the moisture in there stomach and digestive tracts
keep giving them water. and watch them

My dog has eaten all sorts of things, super glue, glass ornaments, pack of cigs, jar of salsa (glass and all), the list goes on and on. I always call my vet and she always said to just watch her (watch for puking, blood in the stool, diarrhea and lethargy)and make sure to give her (the dog) plenty of water. No trouble so far.
