Everyone wants to believe that Myspace is the problem because the media makes a big deal of it. On-line meeting and communicating hubs don't have any more predators than real world places like the mall and playgrounds. The difference is the anonymous nature of on-line activity. A person can lie much easier on-line making it more dangerous. Your mother has right for concern. But if shes done a good job raising you, you'll make the right kind of decisions to keep yourself safe. Once again a parent goes wrong by sheltering rather than teaching a child.

As I understand it, my space USED to be a place set up for people who wanted a safe, appropriate, place to go to to do whatever, without worrying about the bad things on the internet. Myspace no longer is that kind of place. It is just as bad as any other now. That is most likely why you are not allowed to go there. Sorry kiddo but your parents only want to ensure your safety. There are other sites you can go to that are still safe. This place is not a good place anymore. I'd rather think it sucks than have something bad happen. You should be glad your parents are keeping you safe.

Well, first not everyone in the world is on MySpace. My two teen aged daughters aren't. One had a page for a while until ugly stuff started to happen. When she started the adults could post things that everyone could see. There wasn't a way to block adult creeps.

MySpace has been shown to be the #1 spot for predators to pick up children.

I believe they are trying to put some safe guards in place but haven't seen enough to let my daughters back on.

Your mom IS doing what is right for you. Even though you don't see it right now.

well u sound like ur about 12 ...
if u were a parent would u want ur kid in a website where ppl can post pornographic pictures.
Sometimes parents want to protect their kid from bad associations in school so that the child will not follow their bad example.
Well myspace can be like a giant playground and parents need to take the same precautions...theyr actually doing u a favor. Once you are older...you can make ur own decisions. but for now ur safety is their responsability.

Probably because there's been too much negativity on myspace in the news - between the child predators (which is probably the biggest concern of your mom) to idiotic teenagers using myspace to plot attacks on their high schools and specific people who have done them wrong in their eyes. Is there some sort of compromise you can reach with your mom - perhaps allow her to monitor the time you spend on myspace or something along those lines. Maybe even her having her own account attacked to your's so that way she can see who you're communicating with (don't laught...a friend of mine's 53 y.o. mother is on myspace...easiest way for her to keep up with her kids, nieces and nephews).

Predators. But I also agree with whoever said that teenagers spend too much time on the internet. Read a book or go outside and have some fun. Myspace is a fad anyway. You're not missing anything. Don't worry about what everyone else is doing either. You won't form your own opinions properly if you worry about what everyone else is thinking and doing.

Because it is a virtual prowling ground for sexual predators. Go to www.dateline.msnbc.com and read their "To Catch A Predator" series. Many of the people they caught got their victims from MySpace and even on Yahoo. Your mother is right to keep you off of it. I wish they would shut the site down.

Myspace is over rated anyway. she's just hearing all the bad things about it.. Tell her the perks of myspace, and tell her if she needs to, she can read yours.. Thats better than not being on it at all. you can erase comments and emails on there. And if you give her that option of reading yours, she might feel better about it, and not even want to read it. OR you cannot be trusted on there..

Because there are some weird people out there who take advantage of the fact that Myspace is huge, lots of young people stick pictures on there and personal information, and end up stalking and in some cases sexually assaulting these people.
