I flew American international in Feb. and there were free pillows and blankets. Is that the same on cross-country American flights (i/e San Francisco - Boston and DC - LAX) and/or American Eagle (i/e Boston - DC and LAX - San Jose)?

Yes, but there is not one per person. If you want one, get it at the start of the flight.

Domestic US service is much different than international in terms of amenities. You won't find pillows or blankets on Eagle flights. Futher, you won't find pillows on any American mainline flight that originates and terminates in the US. You will most likely find blankets on long haul flights of four hours or more, but you need to grab them as you board as there aren't enough to go around. On shorter flights, as in just about anything that doesn't go coast-to-coast, barring the rare exception there are usually no blankets at all.

None of this applies if you're in first class on mainline, where you'll at least get a blanket 90% of the time.

American still has the pillows and blankets but be sure to get them at the start of the flight.
